Senior UNIX/Linux Engineer PRISM is seeking a highly skilled Senior UNIX/Linux Engineer to join our team in Washington, DC.
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and high-performance UNIX/Linux-based systems, with a strong emphasis on leveraging cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure.
The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in advanced system administration, scripting, and automation, coupled with a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities: Provide advanced technical support and resolve complex or ambiguous problems related to UNIX/Linux-based hardware and software.
Manage intricate system activities, optimizing system parameters and configurations to ensure robust security and maximum performance.
Develop and implement technical standards for diverse Linux and UNIX operating systems (e.g., RHEL, Solaris, Oracle Linux, Ubuntu, etc.). Perform in-depth system kernel tuning, performance optimization, and security hardening.
Drive critical technical decisions, identifying alternatives, evaluating pros and cons, and making well-reasoned recommendations.
Lead the integration of UNIX/Linux environments within a Microsoft Windows computing infrastructure, including directory services, file sharing, networking, client configuration, and multi-platform tiered application deployment.
Actively contribute to integrating with large, enterprise computing environments, collaborating effectively with multiple functional teams and clients to ensure high service levels and deliver effective solutions.
Monitor key performance metrics on UNIX/Linux-based systems and conduct thorough capacity analysis as needed.
Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). 10+ years of extensive experience managing large-scale enterprise Linux/UNIX systems.
7+ years of experience in a technical leadership capacity, guiding teams or projects.
Familiarity with high-availability and clustered Linux/UNIX environments.
Proven experience supporting and meticulously documenting build and configuration changes across diverse environments.
Deep understanding of industry-standard system architecture, system management concepts, and associated tools.
Demonstrated experience in the design, deployment, and operational support of large, complex enterprise systems.
