About the Role

Our Client is seeking a Vice President or Senior Vice President of Institutional Business Development to lead capital-raising and relationship efforts with institutional investors across the Central U.S. This individual will focus on building relationships with pensions, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, and other institutional allocators.

The successful candidate will be a proven originator with a strong track record of sourcing and developing institutional mandates. This is a high-impact, hands-on role best suited for someone who thrives in a growth-oriented environment and can translate strategic initiatives into actionable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Drive institutional capital-raising activity across the Central U.S., focusing on pensions, endowments, foundations, and insurance companies.

Identify and cultivate new institutional investor relationships while deepening existing partnerships.

Serve as a strategic partner to the broader Institutional Sales and Product teams to align investor demand with product offerings.

Represent FS Investments in meetings, conferences, and virtual sessions with institutional stakeholders.

Work closely with internal teams (marketing, product, operations) to ensure effective coverage and client experience.

Leverage CRM and data analytics to track pipeline activity, coverage metrics, and relationship depth.

Execute with minimal administrative support; must be a self-starter and individual contributor.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in institutional sales, investor relations, or capital formation within alternative asset management or financial services.

Deep relationships across Central U.S. institutional channels strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to originate and close new mandates.

Proven knowledge of alternative investment strategies, including private credit, real estate, and hybrid solutions.

Series 7 and 63 required (or ability to obtain quickly); Series 65 or 24 is a plus.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

Comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Willingness to travel extensively within the region.

Preferred Locations: NY, CT, PA, or possibly Chicago

Role Scope & Team Structure

This position supports U.S. capital-raising efforts within a hybrid institutional sales team.

The immediate need is to fill a gap in Central U.S. institutional coverage.

Ideal candidates will be relationship-driven "hunters" who can independently manage key institutional relationships (pensions, endowments, foundations, insurance).

Our Client fosters an entrepreneurial culture expectations are for self-starters who can operate with high autonomy following onboarding and product familiarization.

The team structure includes junior/senior pairings, with analyst support for sales initiatives. Product specialists provide technical expertise but do not own client relationships.

Market & Geographic Considerations

Preference for individuals with strong institutional relationships in the Central U.S., particularly in Chicago, Detroit, or St. Louis.

FS is open to flexible location options for standout candidates with proven networks.

While experience with hedge funds and liquid alts is helpful, deep understanding of private markets is essential.
