Position Overview
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) plays a key role in supporting the planning and execution of mechanical and specialty trade construction projects. This position partners with Project Managers and division leaders from preconstruction through closeout, helping ensure that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The APM will also serve as a mentor to junior staff and play an important role in developing subcontractor relationships and improving internal processes.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with job cost control, forecasting, and financial documentation.
Prepare and track project budgets, pay applications, and change orders.
Support preconstruction efforts including estimate review and schedule input.
Review scopes of work and assist with contract management and submittals.
Team & Subcontractor Coordination
Assist in leading subcontractor/vendor procurement.
Coordinate and schedule subcontractors and vendors for timely project delivery.
Facilitate trade partner meetings to ensure alignment and resolve field issues.
Provide guidance to Project EngineersandInterns.
Leadership & Communication
Act as liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders (clients, vendors, field teams).
Lead or support project meetings, documentation, and communications.
Assist in RFI preparation and tracking including constraint logs, etc.
Assist with on-site management duties on smaller-scope projects.
Mentor and support junior team members development and performance.
Quality & Safety
Help implement safety procedures and ensure compliance on job sites.
Support quality control plans to ensure all customer performance criteria are met.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical/Architectural Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 5 years of construction experience, preferably in mechanical or multi-trade environments.
Proven ability to manage project documentation, budgets, and subcontractor coordination.
Strong understanding of construction scheduling, cost control, and safety practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with project management software a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Positive, proactive attitude and commitment to team success.
Valid drivers license.
