Salary: $30-$39 hr DOE
The OSP Telecommunications Construction Foreman will conduct and lead the aerial and underground construction, maintenance, and repair of telecommunication networks. This includes working with overhead and underground coaxial and fiber cables, and related equipment to ensure the reliable transmission of voice, data, and other telecommunications services. Responsible for ensuring safe operating practices personally and for the crew. A strong candidate will have working knowledge and experience required for telecom construction execution utilizing a full utility bucket truck, demonstrates a thorough understanding of industry and OSHA safety regulations and has experience leading a crew.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Mount, install, repair, and secure aerial telecommunication cables, and associated equipment, to include new plant construction, wreck out, de-lash, re-lash, and over lash tasks
Ensure proper placement and tension of aerial cables to meet safety and performance standards
Install and maintain support structures such as poles, anchors, and braces
Mount, install, repair, and secure underground telecommunication cables, and associated equipment, to include new plant construction, rod, rope and pull cables in conduit, ped/vault installation/replacement, and restoration tasks
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations when working at heights, in proximity to electrical lines, as well as when performing operations on the ground with respect to utility locates
Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement by safely operating and maintaining specialized tools and equipment used in aerial telecommunication work, such as bucket trucks, cable splicing tools, testing devices, and various excavation equipment/tools.
Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow industry and OSHA safety standards to prevent accidents and injuries
Conduct safety assessments of work sites and implement corrective measures as needed
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to meet project deadlines and specifications
Maintain accurate records of installation, maintenance, and repair activities
Document equipment specifications, cable routes, and any changes made to the telecommunication infrastructure
Demonstrate leadership qualities and provide guidance to other team members including directing job tasks and holding team members accountable for safety practices
Take ownership of additional job duties and projects as assigned by the Patriot management team
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to be self-directed and work independently or lead a crew
Strong understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, including aerial and underground construction methods, equipment, and safety protocols.
Knowledge of fiber optic and coaxial cable types, make-ups, and manufacturer specifications
Knowledge of cable testing procedures and test equipment
Experience preferred: 5+ years of relevant job experience in a similar industry or job experience with similar essential duties
Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure
Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, fiber schematics, HFC maps, and project specifications.
High level of professionalism, including the ability to successfully navigate various personalities when working with customers, fellow employees, and the public
Must hold a valid state drivers license and maintain a satisfactory driving record
Able to successfully pass pre-employment and random drug screenings and physicals as required for the role
Must be able to obtain and hold a DOT medical card
Must have the ability to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and off hours as needed
Ability to travel daily/weekly as business needs require
Education Level: minimum High School/GED, technical or industry training preferred.
Essential Physical Requirements:
Able to stand and walk for an 8-hour shift on varied surfaces
Able to sit in a vehicle and drive to various locations for extended periods of time
Physically able to push, pull, and lift up to 75 pounds or more
Able to stoop, crawl, kneel, bend at knees and waist, twist, and squat throughout an 8-hour shift
Able to work in all temperatures, climates, and weather conditions
Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, cars, buckets & bucket truck cabs, trenchers, etc.) and meet safety requirements for boom weight limits.
Able to climb poles up to 40 feet and work at heights
Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include but are not limited to close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus potentially near and/or far as needed
Ability to work while wearing safety boots, glasses, climbing harness, and hardhat along with other required PPE
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment for this position may be moderate to loud
All work is outdoors, so employees in this position are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, which can include but are not limited to extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet, and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
