Job Description
Gerhart is in search of a skilled and experienced Controls Engineer to join our growing team!
In this role the Controls Engineer will work as a resource within the Gerhart Engineering Solutions team to support design, development, testing, and implementation of products and systems. The candidate will report to the Business Unit Manager and will work within a group of Process Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Management, and Fabrication team resources. The Controls Engineer will have a strong focus on PLC & HMI programming, RTU programming. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can identify customer requirements and specifications, and develop an engineered solution.
Main Responsibilities:
Write PLC and HMI programs based on customer requirements to support engineered solutions that meet a high level of functional and perceived quality to the customer
Reverse Engineer existing control programs to be replaced by or integrated with new control programs
Develop programs using weight controllers for custom weighing equipment
Assist with onsite labor of startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting of equipment
Develop documentation including manuals, I/O lists, and SAT for Gerhart internal usage and for customer documentation packages
Design electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout for industrial control panels
Determine appropriate components for system size and design requirements for the industrial control panels in accordance with the industrial electrical codes
Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and management
Provide technical support to field technicians and installers for the installation and maintenance of Gerhart designed systems
Ensure projects are delivered on time, and in alignment with budget
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and partners
Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices
Execute additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Job Requirements:
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Electrical / Automation, plus at least 2 years of experience in the controls field, or 5 years of combined training and work experience
Working experience with Allen Bradley software such as: Logix designer 5000, RSLogix 500, Factory talk view, and CCW
Hands on experience with multiple PLC software and hardware such as Omron, GE, and/or Siemens is a plus
Knowledge and experience with structure text programming such as Visual Studio package is required
Experience with electrical AutoCAD is required
Familiar with industrial communication protocols such as (serial, Ethernet IP, Modbus) is required
Understanding of the industrial electrical codes such as (NEC, UL508A, NFPA 497) is required
