Non-Destructive Testing Technician

Job Description

Job Overview:

NDT uses automated and manual techniques including ultrasound, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant and visual to perform non-destructive tests to identify errors or defects in equipment. May be responsible for testing a variety of materials such as steel, stainless steel, rubber, composites, and aluminum or other mechanical components such as, storage tanks, cylinder rolls, piping and pressure vessels. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision, and typically reports to a Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

Set up and utilize Nondestructive Test equipment.

Assist NDT Technicians in the calibration of NDT equipment.

Assist NDT Technicians conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using NDT methods of inspection.

Record results of inspections.

Assist Technicians in performing NDT procedures and other operations.

Perform other job related tasks as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Technical background preferred.

Physical Demands:

Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, visual acuity, accommodation and color vision.

Moving, carrying, lifting, objects in excess of 50 lbs.

Climbing and working off of ladders, stairs, and scaffolding in excess of 100 ft.

Working extended hours and standing for extended periods of time.

Work in indoors and out door environments in conditions of extreme heat and cold.

Work in and near industrial hazards.

Work Environment:

Industrial environment. Paper and steel mills.

Occasional travel (up to 30%) throughout the nation required.

Work Hours: This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position. Shifts and hours may vary throughout the week, including weekend hours. Travel is required at times.Company Description
