The City of Kettering’s Purchasing Division, within the Finance Department, is recruiting to fill the Part-time position (25 hours per week, M-F during regular hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm) of Finance Technician I. This position performs various technical, purchasing, and record keeping duties in support of the City's Finance operation in a fast-paced “teamwork” environment. The position classification is in the Non-competitive Classified Civil Service and works under the general supervision of the Purchasing Manager.
Qualifications:
The Finance Technician I-Purchasing position assists city staff with purchases of goods, materials, and services, reviews requisitions for accuracy, and coordinates blanket purchase order process, maintenance agreement process, and cooperative purchasing agreements with government agencies and vendors. The position prepares and processes Requests for Quotations and Proposals, prepares bid tabulations and other analysis for departments, and performs public bid openings. Other duties include coordination of office supply purchases and vendor online system for proper use, assistance with fixed asset biannual inventory, and answering inquiries from City departments, the public and vendors regarding purchasing matters. This position requires knowledge of purchasing and negotiation methods, terminology, principles and procedures along with the ability to apply this knowledge to work products. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with outside vendors, the public and City staff are required. A degree in procurement, accounting or a related field is preferred or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform increasingly complex procurement work in the governmental environment.
