We are seeking a skilled and motivated System Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud infrastructure, primarily AWS, but experience with other leading cloud providers such as Azure and Google Cloud are also beneficial. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, customer interaction and a keen eye for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.

Purpose of Role

As a System Engineer at BAO Systems, you will be responsible for managing our Linux-based systems, VM infrastructure and DevOps processes. A key aspect of the role is implementing security best-practices, improving our security posture and driving addressing remediation efforts. We strive to create an automated, infrastructure as code (IaC) environment. You will work closely with various teams including software engineering and project delivery to ensure the smooth operation of our IT environment, supporting both internal and client-facing applications.

Core Job Responsibilities

Administer, configure, and maintain Linux servers to ensure system stability, performance and security.

Design, implement, and manage cloud infrastructure solutions across multiple cloud providers, with a primary focus on AWS.

Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Ansible and Terraform, ensuring scalable, repeatable and reliable deployments.

Perform regular security scans and assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and implement appropriate security measures to safeguard systems and data.

Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to improve system reliability and implement best practices.

Automate routine tasks using Ansible, Bash & Python.

Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure using tools such as Zabbix, Prometheus, and Grafana.

Implement and manage Single Sign-On (SSO) infrastructure using a variety of IdP providers such as Google Cloud Identity and Spring Security.

Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, processes and security practices.

Identify and address inefficiencies in our cloud infrastructure to optimize costs and performance.

Lead and participate in the migration of systems from one platform to another, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.

Provide technical support and guidance to other team members and stakeholders.

Engage with customers through various channels, such as tickets, in-person calls, tech and support calls, to understand customer needs and provide effective solutions (up to 25% of the time).

Stay current with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve our cloud infrastructure and processes.

Requirements:

Required Skills/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

5 years of relevant work experience.

Proven experience as a System Engineer with expertise in Linux environments.

Experience with AWS cloud services, including EC2, S3, IAM, CW, and VPC.

Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure as code.

Experience with monitoring and logging tools Zabbix, Prometheus, and Grafana.

Knowledge of SSO implementation and management, preferably with Google Cloud.

Experience with security practices, including vulnerability scanning, patch management, and incident response.

Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python).

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills/Experience

Certification in AWS, Linux administration, and/or security.
