Title: Training Coordinator

Location: On site, Frederick, MD

Status: Full Time

Travel: Up to 15%

Position Summary:

USAMRIID, located at Fort Detrick, Maryland, works closely with other U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC) organizations, Department of Defense (DoD), the Interagency (including Interagency Laboratories), and private companies to accomplish its mission of protecting the Warfighter from biological threats and being prepared to investigate disease outbreaks or threats to public health. This includes conducting Research, Development, Testing, & Evaluation (RDTE) of medical countermeasure against biological threats and the safety, quality assurance, project management, and core support required for these research activities.

The Molecular Biology Division works to combat biological threats and weapons of mass destruction by developing high-throughput sequencing and protein profiling to identify emerging pathogens. It also evaluates and improves medical countermeasures, follows the DoD's roadmap for their development, and ensures their ethical use, including FDA approval. The Division also explores expanding indications and combinations with existing countermeasures.

The Training Coordinator shall serve as a FIBWA Coordinator and Primary Instructor, providing operational coordination, conducting courses and research on modern microbiology and molecular techniques, instruments, and protocols for clinical diagnosis and environmental biosurveillance of Biological Warfare Agents. Will work within BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratories IAW the provisions of this contract and applicable regulations. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Coordinate within the unit to ensure program responsibilities and between other government agencies to ensure requests for training are scheduled and coordinated

Oversee the daily operation of the classroom and teaching laboratory spaces. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: procurement, inventory and stocking of supplies, calibration and maintenance of scientific equipment, training of support staff, writing and maintaining SOPs, inventory and property documents and ensuring projects are performed in compliance with DoD/Army safety procedures, CLIP, GLP and other regulations that may be applicable. Primary place of performance will be at USAMRIID, 1425 Porter Street. Secondary place of performance will be the FIBWA Training Center at Area B during training, class setup, and area/equipment maintenance

Collaborate with the Education & Training Branch Chief and FIBWA Medical Director to develop and maintain Point of Instructions for each course in support of the accreditation processes. At least annually, review curriculum for updates based on advancing technologies and customer demand. Provide recommended updates to TPOC at a minimum, one time a

Plan and execute complex training scenarios as the primary instructor for the FIBWA courses (3 designated and ad hoc courses based on customer demand).

Prepare course materials prior to each course. Materials will include hardcopy training instructions, all reagents and equipment necessary for course work, and biological samples for analysis. Workload is minimally eight FIBWA courses per year. Prepare between 375 and 400 laboratory samples per

Provide both didactic and kinesthetic training on current FIBWA programmatic course material. Workload is minimally eight FIBWA courses per

Evaluate student performance, for both on-going concept mastery, as well as through tests and situational exercises that demonstrate competency of material taught. Workload is 4-8 students per course. Provide course critique summary and metrics for each class

Represent the FIBWA course to other customers through briefings, demonstrations, and participation in working groups or other forums. Prepare between 150 and 175 proficiency test (PT) samples per year to support the FIBWA QA/PT

Participate in the test and evaluation of new technologies and sample processing protocols to improve the FIBWA courses and forward laboratory concept of operations. No less than 2 technical reports will be published each

Serve on operational mission teams, domestically and internationally as needed, to include performance of a full array of diagnostic support activities for diagnostic support at a BSL-2 level of operations. Provide support to DSD BSL-2 laboratory as

Provide supplementary technical laboratory support to Special Pathogens Laboratory and the National CDC LRN Sections of the Department as

Prepare and provide the TPOC a FIBWA Training report detailing the specifics of the course, challenges presented, and areas of improvement and sustainment within 5 business days of course

Travel CONUS and OCONUS as needed to perform duties in support of USAMRIID's training & education programs projects.

Obtain and maintain eligibility for an active SECRET security.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field

Valid U.S. Passport

5+ years of relevant lab experience

Experience with handling both bacterial and viral pathogens for in vitro and in vivo studies

Experience in BSL-2, BSL- 3, and BSL-4 biocontainment labs preferred

Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance

Active Secret clearance preferred
