Position Description:
The College of Social Work at THE Ohio State University has developed a long-standing and deeply ingrained culture of applied research and scholarship that permeates all aspects of our programs, informs our community service and engagement, and contributes to the greater good of the profession, society, and the world. The CSW is ranked 7th among all social work programs at public universities and provides accredited BSSW and MSW programs. In addition, the college offers a PhD program.
The Social Work Summer Research Consultant will collaborate primarily with Dr. Lauren McInroy. They will also work with other faculty, students, and staff members at multiple institutions across five countries to progress ongoing projects. Strong leadership and team management skills will be beneficial.
The Social Work Summer Research Consultant will contribute to administration, data collection, data analyses, and scholarly dissemination, particularly of two internationally funded projects in the College of Social Work during Summer 2025. The Consultant will primarily serve as a subject matter expert on LGBTQ+ populations and a methodological expert, and must have prior experience with structural equation modeling (SEM).
This position requires proficiency in data analysis. The Consultant will complete advanced statistical analyses with SPSS and Mplus; specifically structural equation modelling (SEM). The Consultant will primarily analyze quantitative data from a large, international online survey of LGBTQ+ adolescents and young adults. This role will lead the analysis utilizing common social work research methods for ongoing research in on LGBTQ+ populations. There may be opportunities to participate in qualitative analyses, if desired. The consultant will be expected to produce a range of deliverables, including They are also responsible for ensuring the integrity and validity of data and analyses, including identify and resolving and inconsistencies in the data. They will maintain records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and university standards.
Work is primarily achieved through individual efforts, with participation on functional or project teams. May coordinate, influence, or review the work of others.
Duties Description :
Data Analyses – Assist Dr. McInroy with analyzing quantitative datasets from ongoing projects. Specific tasks include data preparation and cleaning, data analysis (including SEM), reporting and interpretation of analyses, write up of analyses for public dissemination.
Dissemination Activities – Assist the research team with disseminating research findings. This includes contributing to manuscript preparation for peer reviewed journals and abstract submission to international, juried conferences. Authorship will be granted when contributions warrant it, and following discussion with Dr. McInroy. Specific tasks include literature reviews, write-up of methods and results, preparation of conference presentations.
Administration – Preparation for and attendance at research team meetings. Bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with Dr. McInroy to review progress and plan next steps. Other administrative duties as necessary (e.g., research ethics, regulatory compliance).

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Health Sciences, Computer Science or relevant field. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master of Social Work (MSW) degree or an equivalent degree in another relevant field. Advanced degree in relevant field (e.g., PhD in social work) is desirable. At least 4 years of prior research experience.
Experience in project management, mixed methods research, and quantitative analyses including capability with SPSS and MPlus, as well as prior experience with structural equation modeling (SEM). Experience with and knowledge of LGBTQ+ populations.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, meeting facilitation software, and other project management tools.
