Your Role
As an Interior Designer, you will be the team leader of interior design projects, working in tandem with Design Directors to achieve the office design vision. You will bring your unique point of view to author the design story for the client and collaborate with design team members to achieve design excellence and client satisfaction. Through these efforts you will be contributing to Gensler’s mission to create a better world through the power of design.
What You Will Do
Team leader of interior design projects that include programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, space planning and construction documentation
Begin to manage all phases of design throughout project scope for complex interior design projects, including project set-up, strategic planning, design and construction administration
Coordinate with Studio Directors, Design Directors, Technical Directors, project team members, clients and other project stakeholders to execute realization of project design goals
Prepare project teamwork plans and manage a range of project team sizes, comprised of design director, technical director, architects, interior designers, and consultants
Create and communicate clear and attainable project objectives and project requirements
Foster and cultivate a culture of design in the office and strive to elevate design quality on projects
Oversee design documentation and ensure alignment with the overall architectural vision and client brand identity
Participate in the selection and presentation of furniture, furniture systems, fabrics, equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and lighting
Provide design support and documentation during completion and execution of design concepts
Work with external consultants, product representatives, furniture dealers, and fabricators
Proactively lead teams for successful delivery of projects
Develop and maintain client relationships that lead to new project opportunities
Support business development efforts through client presentations, project pitches, and participation in interviews and RFP responses
Support strategic growth by engaging in market-facing efforts in the Frederick area, building relationships, identifying opportunities, and representing the firm in business development initiatives.
Actively contribute to office activities, initiatives and learning programs
Your Qualifications
Talented and passionate about design excellence, combined with an energy and magnetism that draws people in and inspires creativity in others
Able to gain the client’s trust through listening and hearing, then challenging them to raise the bar, push the status quo and elevate the design conversation
Able to understand and navigate systems, relationships and lines of communication between and project team members, clients, committee members, consultants and other key stakeholders
Able to balance the use of technology, hand sketching and diagraming to graphically represent and communicate design concepts to clients and team members in a relatable way
Strong written and verbal communication, storytelling and presentation skills
Collaborative team player who is willing to put ego aside, receive and incorporate feedback, ask questions and ensure everyone on the team achieves design excellence
Strategic time manager who knows where to make an impact and where to streamline vs. reinventing the wheel
Resourceful, creative problem solver who uses ingenuity to push through challenging conditions to come up with multiple solutions
Generous in devoting time to mentoring and developing design team members
Proficient in Revit, SketchUp, 3D Studio Max and other modeling software programs
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
NCIDQ/CID Certified
