About the Role
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive estimates for commercial and retail ground-up or renovation projects. This role involves close collaboration with project management, field operations, and business development teams to ensure complete and competitive bids.
Key Responsibilities
Project Estimation & Bid Preparation
Analyze construction drawings, specs, and RFPs to develop accurate project estimates
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment
Conduct site visits to evaluate site conditions and logistical considerations
Prepare and submit RFIs to clarify plans and resolve potential issues
Develop and present detailed bid packages on tight deadlines
Maintain all estimate-related documentation and historical pricing data
Subcontractor & Vendor Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Solicit competitive bids and ensure scope coverage across all trades
Review and evaluate subcontractor proposals for accuracy and alignment with project needs
Distribute plans and manage bid invitations to ensure vendor participation
Post-Award Project Support
Assist with subcontractor selection, scope reviews, and procurement
Support the transition from estimating to project management teams
Help develop project budgets and participate in project buyouts
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
Identify and suggest improvements to internal estimating processes
Participate in client presentations and preconstruction strategy meetings
Stay current with market trends, pricing, and construction methodologies
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Minimum 2+ years of estimating experience in commercial or retail construction
General contractor experience preferred
Familiar with building systems, materials, and construction sequencing
Skills & Technical Expertise
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimation software (PrimeBid, Timberline, or similar)
Ability to read and interpret full construction drawing sets
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple estimates under deadline
