Minimum Qualifications:
Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED; one year of customer service and/or one year of clerical/office support experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Previous work experience in a library technology management department is preferred but not required. A working knowledge of computer technology and related software with experience in daily support, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting is preferred. With more than five hundred pieces of technology being supported, the ability to change focus quickly while prioritizing is key for any successful candidate.
Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service; of standard office practices and procedures; of basic library services and functions; ability to file alphabetically and numerically; strong mathematical skills; to problem solve; to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of people from different backgrounds; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; attention to detail and accuracy; ability to maintain confidentiality; customer-focused mindset; flexible and adaptable to change.
Duties:
• The Automation Technician will perform clerical and technical duties to include, but are not limited to, implementation, review, repair and maintenance of the computer-controlled systems and hardware to maximize efficiencies for total library department/systems at all facilities and locations.
• Assist with first level troubleshooting of software and equipment used to deliver library services and products to the public using strong customer service skills.
• Assist with answering Help Desk calls/emails and entering this information into the ticketing system as well as documenting responses.
• Redirecting Help Desk issues to the appropriate resources. Obtain outside technical support and/or research other resources for potential solutions.
• Assist with the day-to-day maintenance and support of all propriety library hardware and software programs and library network support including backups, upgrade installations, troubleshooting, and emergency issues.
• Maintain technology inventory control to include tracking, checking in/out, etc.
• Perform related clerical tasks and other work as required.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in library office, library locations and other professional settings; extensive use of computers and devices required. Light to medium, occasionally heavy, physical requirements which may include, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, keyboarding, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal and reading; not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
