Position Summary:The staff Clinical Outcomes Supervisor is directly responsible to the Director, and/or his designee, and has the responsibility for overall oversight, direction, utilization, instruction, and evaluation of new graduates of physical therapy.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Evaluations:

Responsible for the evaluation of all patients referred for physical therapy.

Responsible for completion and submission of all reports pertaining to the evaluation.

Effectively communicates with referral sources, other departments, and external agencies regarding evaluative findings and patient's needs. Treatment Quality:

Ensures that Physical Therapy Practices are consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and Standards of Practice policy in this manual.

Treats patients of all ages (e.g., infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, elderly, ages 0-120 years), race, creed, gender, and disability without bias or prejudice.

Demonstrates respect and understanding of the patient's right to treatment and right to involvement in treatment decisions. Patient centric shared decision making.

Practices ethical responsibility based on the cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs of the patients served as applicable by law.

2. Demonstrates treatment skills that are rooted in evidence-based practice guidelines while balancing both patient and provider expectations and needs.

3. Confers with the person(s) most closely associated with the active management of the patient to keep them informed of any additional patient needs, treatment modification, and/or progress.

Treatment Quantitative:

Maintains a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the department/facility.

Practices caseload management as it pertains to NS, CXL and reschedules. Provides appropriate visits per referral, including frequency, duration based on POC determined with referring provider. Demonstrates the ability to manage the episode of care using both HEP and clinic visits.

Billing/CPT or RVU matches the time spent with patient, within department standards. Records and Reports:

Prepares and submits department/facility reports, assuring confidentiality of all records:

Evaluation reports/summaries.

Discharge reports/summaries.

Progress reports to referring physicians and agencies.

Daily notes completed in a timely fashion while supporting medical necessity.

Special reports as requested by the Director and or Manager.

Clinical Oversight:

Mentoring Responsibilities:

Provides effective on the job training for new physical therapists and builds learning into the work performed, including department orientation.

Ensures new physical therapists have resources, tools, feedback and assistance needed to achieve desired performance.

Responsible for overseeing new physical therapists, evaluating their treatment plans and ensuring positive clinical outcomes of their patients referred for physical therapy.

Responsible for reviewing and ensuring the completion and submission of all reports pertaining to their patient evaluations.

Responsible for student affiliations and supervision of student physical therapists and physical therapist assistants within Orthopedic One. Leadership Support Responsibilities:

Assists Director with completion of annual and interim performance appraisals based on observation and written records. Confers with Director and assists with development goals and plans as needed.

Proactively reviews metrics important to department to ensure maximum productivity and customer service.

Advises referral sources department/facility action with the case referred.

Protocol development for department. Treatment Oversight:

Ensures that Physical Therapy Practices are consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and Standards of Practice policy in this manual.

Confers with the person(s) most closely associated with the active management of the patient and to keep them informed of any additional patient needs, treatment modification and/or progress. Records and Reports Oversight:

Ensures that the proper reports are submitted by the new physical therapist and reviews for accuracy, including:

Evaluation reports/summaries

Discharge reports/summaries

Progress reports to referring physicians and agencies

Current progress notes on all patients within their area

Special reports as requested by the Director and/or Supervisor

Daily attendance records and summaries of same

Professional Status and Public Relations:

Maintains current professional knowledge of techniques and trends in the field of Physical Therapy.

Attends conventions, meetings, or special courses whenever possible and to share with the department/facility personnel information gained thereby.

Prepares and presents educational presentations to community groups as requested.

Maintains positive public relations with all community sources. Teamwork:

Works cooperatively with coworkers, providers, and management.

Shares knowledge and insights with co-workers in a constructive manner.

Willingly provides coverage to department, staying beyond scheduled ending time when clinic schedule demands it, volunteering to cover time off or unexpected absences, maintaining workflow in department without direct supervision.

Addresses conflicts with person directly before involving manager or uninvolved peers.

Is considerate of others with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, use of computer and telephone, and noise in department. Policies and Procedures:

Knows and complies with policies and procedures as enumerated in the Policy and Procedures Manual per CMS and department standards.

Provides assistance to the Director or his designee with the revision of any procedures with department/facility personnel as necessary.

Actively participates and adheres to all policies and procedures as enumerated in the risk management program. Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure Required:

Candidate must be a graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association accredited school of Physical Therapy; have current state licensure and CPR certification including BLS/AED. A minimum of five years in practice experience, and one of the following certifications is also required, ABPTS Board Certification, PT/AT dual credentials, or McKenzie Institute Certification including courses A - D. Absent certification, the minimum of clinical practice experience is 10 years, preferably in an outpatient PT orthopedic/sports practice focus.
