Shift: 0.9 FTE (36 hours/ week) 7:00pm- 7:30am + every third weekend
Rate: Starts at $50.30/hour with potential for higher pay based on relevant exp., plus $4.60 shift differential for nights, and additional $4.40 differential for weekends.
Job Description Summary:
Oversees administrative and patient care services nursing administrative decision-making during weekends, evening, and night shifts. Responsible for coordinating hospital operations, patient quality of care, and educational activities. Acts as the hospital spokesperson about external communications.Practices in accordance with Children's Hospital mission and philosophy, and hospital and Patient Care Services division policies and procedures. Models the values of Children's Hospital.
Job Description:
Essential Functions:
Serves as administrative designee during hours that administrative staff is not on the premises. Communicates issues to administrator, patient care services administration, program manager, or appropriate personnel as indicated.
Ensures compliance with Hospital and Division of Patient Care Services policies and procedures.
Directs Patient Care Services and other staff in the management and resolution of emergent and or crises.
Demonstrates knowledge of the HEICS model and provides effective leadership and communication during emergencies and disasters.
Manages, and overseas Hospital operations on a designated shift.
Assesses individual patient, parent, and unit needs as necessary to direct staff and resolve problems.
Assesses staffing needs for Patient Care Services areas individually and collectively, and distributes available personnel and other available resources to meet patient needs.
Evaluates nursing staff performance in select situations and provides input to written evaluations as requested.
Coordinates and directs patient throughout (admission, transfer, discharge) to ensure that patient/family needs are met promptly.
Determines and facilitates patient placement in consideration of patient requirements for nursing and medical care and available resources.
Assists with orientation, training, suspension and development of staff. Evaluates performance, initiates discipline and discharge. Participates in interview process for hospital personnel.
Collaborates with nursing, medical, security, case management and other personnel to ensure a safe, secure, efficient and responsive environment.
Maintains select clinical nursing skills in order to direct, and educate nursing personnel.
Demonstrates competence in providing age appropriate care and service to patients from the age of birth to 21 years and selected adults.
Directs and educates nursing personnel in clinical decision-making and critical problem solving.
Supervises and evaluates clinical nursing practice and makes recommendations for practice changes to improve the quality of care.
Supports, monitors, and implements planned Hospital and Patient Care Services change.
Provides input into the Patient Care Services administrative budget.
Participates in the selection of Patient Care Services and other hospital leadership personnel.
Serves on assigned Hospital and Patient Care Services committees.
Participates in departmental peer review processes.
Communicates/collaborates with administrative, Patient Care Services and other hospital departmental personnel regarding decisions, issues, and/or problems occurring during designated shift.
Maintains an awareness of clinical nursing research and supports research activities.
Demonstrates accountability for personal/professional growth by reading current literature and attending internal and external educational programs as appropriate for the role.
Directs and delegates assignments/tasks to unit assistants, PCA’s, Patient Placement Nurse, and other Patient Care Services personnel.
Supervises the float PCA’s delegate tasks and assignments, and provide feedback regarding job performance.
Responds to code blues, traumas, and other emergencies.
Responds to inquiries, complaints from parents, patients, staff and the public.
Demonstrates the ability to organize and manage multiple demands.
Serves as a resource and advocate to staff/families, parents to resolve issues, problem solve and promote customer satisfaction.
Promotes a professional image through behavior and appearance and acts as a role model to others.
Assumes responsibility for the operation of the department in the absence of the Assistant director as needed.
Effectively relates and interacts with patients, patients families and the healthcare team and serves as a role model.
Provides excellent service in interactions/communications will all customers.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or related discipline, preferred. May be currently enrolled in such a baccalaureate
program, or have commensurate leadership experience.
Licensure Requirement:
Registered Nurse with current licensure to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Ohio, required.
