Job Description
Metrics LLC is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist as we compete for a contract with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This project will support emerging technology initiatives aimed at driving innovation, developing prototypes, and modernizing business processes leveraging advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and natural language processing (NLP). As a Data Scientist on this team, you will play a critical role in evaluating and implementing data-driven technologies to advance USPTO’s mission and enhance the performance of federal systems. This position is primarily remote, with the flexibility to work securely from approved locations using company-provided equipment and credentials.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy AI, ML, and NLP models to support innovation and modernization objectives.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies into existing solutions.
Analyze large datasets to extract actionable insights and recommend data-driven strategies.
Support the planning and execution of proof-of-concept and prototype projects using advanced analytics.
Ensure all data science solutions meet federal security, privacy, and compliance standards.
Develop and document repeatable analytic workflows and support the creation of design systems.
Provide technical expertise for cloud-based environments, including AWS, GCP, and Azure.
Partner with UX designers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure user-centric development and continuous improvement.
Contribute to the preparation of status reports, technical documentation, and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Stay current with advancements in data science, AI, and cloud technologies, providing recommendations for adoption and innovation.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
Proven experience designing and developing machine learning, AI, and NLP models in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Demonstrated expertise in Python, R, or similar languages, as well as experience with common ML/NLP libraries and frameworks.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant technical field.
Prior experience supporting data science initiatives within federal government or regulated environments.
Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, federal IT security standards, and FedRAMP.
Hands-on experience with MLOps tools and practices for deploying and maintaining AI/ML solutions in production.
