In this unique role, you will provide Quality Assurance with material surveillance support to all shipyard programs. This individual will also be responsible for BIW’s Preventative Maintenance (PM) Quality program.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
PM surveillance program and audits.
PM DOI maintenance and updates.
PM Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) submittals.
Review, analysis and report on quality discrepancies and data related to PM/ production.
Develop and implement program quality plans and procedures.
Ensure that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards.
Investigate problems and develop disposition and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies.
Interface with stakeholders to ensure requirements are met.
Recommend corrective actions, dispositions, process optimization and modifications.
Provide support to Manufacturing in efforts to identify causes of rework and implement corrections to eliminate rework.
Review quality data, identify trends, patterns, anomalies and make recommendations regarding indicators related to changes in quality levels in the manufacturing process.
Work closely with Manufacturing Leadership to identify causes of quality issues and determine potential corrective actions.
Development of Departmental Operating Instructions (DOI) and accomplishing process audits IAW with DOI's.
Accomplish Quality Management System reviews and source inspections at vendor facilities with receipt inspections of products at BIW, travel required for supplier inspections.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
Q/A Engineer II (C Level): Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar preferred. Demonstrated employment background in Quality Administration, Trades, Ship-board Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or in a Project Engineering/ Management role will be additionally preferred.
Q/A Engineer III (D Level): Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience in IT, Trades, Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or in a Supervisory Role in Trades Dept. (BIW Apprenticeship a plus). Ability to meet Job description with respect to the IT elements is required.
Required/Preferred Experience
Q/A Engineer II: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Inspection, Project Management, Engineering, Design, Marine Industry, Planning or a Supervisory Role preferred. BIW apprenticeship graduate and/or shipboard experience in either commercial or military assignments or a background in Quality Assurance or Control preferred.
Q/A Engineer III: A minimum of 5 years of experience in Inspection, Project Management, Engineering, Design, Marine Industry, Planning or a Supervisory Role required. Prefer BIW apprenticeship graduate and/or shipboard experience in either commercial or military assignments or a suitable mix of above. Background in Quality Assurance or Control operating in regulated industry such as aerospace / defense, pharmaceutical, food or scientific environments strongly preferred.
Preventative Maintenance experience highly preferred.
Practical Experience with ISO9001 or similar system in ship-building or other highly regulated industry such as those stated previously. – Demonstrated experience operating and participating in independent audit for certification of known Quality standard (ISO preferred).
Working knowledge of systems such as MACPAC, SAP, TipQA, Accuris, shop methods and construction processes preferred.
The ability to effectively interface with suppliers, customers, and internal divisions required.
High proficiency in MS Office Products with demonstrated mid-to-high level experience in MS Excel, Access, Project, and Visio strongly preferred.
Experience with direct dealing with Navy or another branch of the Department of Defense (DoD) in either commercial or military role Preferred.
Experience in any marine/shipboard assignments, commercial or military preferred.
Regular Full-Time
