A Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Writer plays a crucial role in ensuring workplace safety by developing and documenting procedures to control hazardous energy during maintenance or servicing of machinery. This role is vital for preventing accidents and ensuring a safe working environment. Responsibilities Key duties include establishing and monitoring energy control practices, performing audits of active LOTO procedures, and leading investigations related to LOTO procedure violations and/or hazardous energy releases. Identifying Energy Sources: Assessing machinery and equipment to identify all potential energy sources, such as electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical.
Identifying Appropriate Safety Devices: Evaluate energy source for isolation and identify the appropriate electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical locking device to be applied.
Creating LOTO Procedures: Develop strategies and write clear, step-by-step instructions for safely shutting down, isolating, and de-energizing equipment.
Compliance with Regulations: Ensuring that all LOTO procedures meet OSHA standards and other relevant safety regulations.
Collaboration: Working closely with maintenance teams, safety officers, and operators to gather accurate information about equipment and processes.
Training and Consultation: Providing training to employees on how to follow LOTO procedures and use safety devices effectively.
Documentation and Updates: Maintaining detailed records of LOTO procedures and updating them as equipment or processes change. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 7 years' experience in procedure writing, maintenance planning, or work control processes. Equivalencies may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis: Associate's degree plus 2 additional years of relevant experience
High School Diploma plus 4 additional years of relevant experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including schematics and configuration management.
