This position is responsible for improving student financial services and responsiveness by creating a flexible, information-abundant, compliant, customer service environment that addresses the needs of students, parents and the College. Ensures regulatory compliance for all activities relating to Student Financial Services for the institution. Also, the incumbent will provide leadership to sustain fully functional student finance systems and business intelligence software used by the college for processing and analyzing financial aid and financial information of the college. Performs related work as directed.
Minimum Education:
Master's degree in Accounting, Business or a related subject required.
Minimum Experience/Training:
Ten years of progressively responsible and knowledgeable experience at a professional level in accounting, finance, or financial aid including over eight years in management and five years in higher education.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred: FAAC certification from NASFAA
Essential Functions:
Oversees the daily operations of the Student Financial Services offices which include the College Bursar, Cashiers, Financial Aid, Veteran’s Benefits and Student Accounts Implements processes to maintain College compliance with Federal, State, and Institutional regulations as they pertain to student finance and financial aid; act as a resource for the College community with respect to student finance issues including financial aid, and student accounts. Provides leadership to ensure due diligence is performed on all debts owed to the college and ensure the efficient awarding, processing, application, and disbursement of student federal, state, institutional and foundation financial aid and third-party agencies. Maintains operational controls and separation of duties within a blended office environment. Directs extremely skillful professional staff who are proficient in a number of functional areas. Responds to federal, state, and operational auditor inquiries.
Provides leadership and assistance in the design and maintenance of financial applications at the College. Provides leadership and assistance in the development of training programs and reconciliation procedures to maintain financial data.
Develops, implements, enforces and understands College policies and procedures for transacting business. Awareness of the legal and regulatory issues confronting student financial services. Awareness of developments that occur at the institutional level and its impact on student financial services activities. Maintains and foster open dialogue with departmental heads as changes are contemplated or implemented. Fosters involvement in professional associations and networking opportunities to constantly improve skills and maintain an understanding of the issues facing student financial services.
Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination and discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff, and staff development.
Prioritizes and coordinates the implementation of new system processes and maintenance of existing processes which may affect the SFS organization or the College as a whole. These system processes are used to maintain compliance with College business practices, policies and procedures. Oversight on all finance system designs. Collaborates with District and Campus Administration to ensure a college-wide perspective while working towards effective attainment of district goals and objectives with respect to the planning and activities of the SFS Division and activities. Recommends, approves and coordinates the implementation of new system functionality and the maintenance of these same systems. Recommends and coordinates the implementation of major system projects affecting the College as a whole.
Represents the SFS Department in College meetings, committees, conferences, and external meetings as part of the ongoing effort to identify funding for students.
