ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Street Transportation Department is seeking a motivated individual for a Civil Engineer III position within the Office of the City Engineer. The Vertical Project Management (VPM) section within the Office of the City Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing the design and construction of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) for various city departments. The VPM section is involved in all stages of these projects, from initial planning and design through construction and the warranty period. Typical projects include the design, construction, and renovation of municipal buildings, police and fire facilities, libraries, parks, and other municipal capital improvement projects.
The Civil Engineer III will oversee the design and construction of various projects for the city. This position involves managing a diverse portfolio of municipal construction and renovation projects, with a primary focus on the design and construction of new municipal buildings, tenant improvements, and upgrades to parks infrastructure .
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Proficient using Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of/in:
Fundamentals of civil engineering and project management.
Construction sche dule evaluation and proposal review.
Engineering principles applicable to Capital Improvement Projects.
Modern methods and techniques in the design and construction of civil engineering projects.
Construction methods, materials and practices used in municipal construction projects. Ability to:
Oversee the entire lifecycle of design and project construction.
Manage multiple projects and prioritize activities.
Effectively communicate with other City departments and project sponsors.
Work with consultants, contractors, and client departments to develop realistic budgets and schedules.
Conduct extensive and complex design and construction pricing analyses.
Negotiate comprehensive design and construction contracts and pricing.
Perform in-depth cost comparisons and value engineering assessments.
Manage design professionals and contractor relationships and project execution.
Communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Work under minimal supervision and exercise sound independent judgment in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex issues related to project planning, design, and construction. SALARY
Pay and Hiring Range: $113,193 - $131,040 annually.
The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and or training, as well as internal equity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Four years of experience in the practice of civil engineering or architecture.
One year of experience supervising professional and technical staff.
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering degree.
Must be registered in the State of Arizona as a Professional Engineer with proficiency in civil engineering within 12 months of hire.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

The minimum qualifications listed above, in addition to the following:
Current Arizona Professional Engineer registration is preferred.
Minimum of three years of relevant project management experience.
Related Municipal experience. Experience in/of:
Contract negotiations.
Monitoring and administering design and construction contracts.
Project management and design of various governmental or municipal projects.
Planning, managing, overseeing, coordinating, and implementing engineering and architectural design and construction projects.
