Job Description

Hybrid - Contract to hire opportunity to join a top Enterprise level, employer of choice!

Hybrid opportunity for a Principal Engineer - Platform & CDN Engineering, to lead the design, development, and optimization of cloud-based platform solutions with a strong focus on Fastly CDN, AWS cloud infrastructure, and serverless and container-based microservices architectures. Your expertise will ensure scalable, high-performing, and secure digital experiences by architecting cloud-native solutions, optimizing traffic distribution, and ensuring platform reliability across global environments. This role requires a deep understanding of Fastly CDN strategies, AWS cloud networking, serverless computing, containerization, and edge computing to enhance the performance and resilience of distributed systems.

Responsibilities Scope and Impact:

• Architect and implement Fastly CDN strategies to optimize web performance, reduce latency, and improve the scalability of digital applications.

• Develop and optimize AWS-based microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and Node.js, ensuring seamless integration and efficient resource utilization.

• Drive AWS cloud infrastructure optimization, leveraging serverless computing (AWS Lambda, API Gateway) and container orchestration (ECS, EKS, Fargate).

• Enhance API performance and security by leveraging edge computing and modern caching strategies through Fastly.

• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployments, incorporating observability and automated performance monitoring. Strategic Contribution:

• Define and execute CDN, AWS cloud engineering, and serverless & container-based microservices development strategies that align with business goals and digital transformation initiatives.

• Lead the adoption of modern AWS cloud networking practices, including serverless-first architectures, multi-region deployments, and traffic routing optimizations.

• Optimize microservices deployments with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, and EKS to enhance reliability, cost efficiency, and scalability.

• Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to establish performance monitoring, logging, and incident response strategies. Delivery Responsibilities:

• Oversee the entire engineering lifecycle of Fastly CDN integration, AWS cloud services, and distributed architectures, ensuring high availability and low-latency delivery.

• Optimize API gateways, proxy layers, and request-routing mechanisms to enhance performance and security at scale.

• Implement security best practices, including DDoS mitigation, WAF policies, bot management, and secure content distribution strategies.

• Ensure automated failover and traffic management strategies across multiple AWS regions to maintain uptime and resilience. Leadership Accountabilities:

• Oversee the entire engineering lifecycle of Fastly CDN integration, AWS cloud services, and distributed architectures, ensuring high availability and low-latency delivery.

• Optimize API gateways, proxy layers, and request-routing mechanisms to enhance performance and security at scale.

• Implement security best practices, including DDoS mitigation, WAF policies, bot management, and secure content distribution strategies.

• Ensure automated failover and traffic management strategies across multiple AWS regions to maintain uptime and resilience.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• 10+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, or CDN architecture.

• Expertise in Fastly CDN, including caching, routing, edge logic, and traffic acceleration strategies.

• Proven experience in AWS microservices development using Java, Spring Boot, and Node.js.

• Extensive experience in AWS cloud services, including EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, API Gateway, and CloudFront.

• Strong proficiency in serverless computing (AWS Lambda, API Gateway) and containerization (ECS, EKS, Fargate, Docker, Kubernetes).

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.

• Deep understanding of AWS networking principles, DNS, and performance optimization in a distributed cloud environment.

Key Skills and Experience:

• Advanced Fastly CDN Engineering: Expertise in Fastly's edge computing, caching, routing, shielding, and WAF policies.
