JOB SUMMARY
The Truck Shop Supervisor is responsible for the management of company equipment and DOT compliant vehicle maintenance including, but not limited to, ready mix trucks, tractor trailers, and service trucks. This position will provide supervision to a team of mechanics who are responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Integrity
Provide leadership, supervision, technical guidance, and instruction to mechanical and service personnel
Ensure all preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs are done in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendation and principles, policies, and procedures established by the company
Utilize sound judgement to approve or deny repairs of assets within a certain cost threshold
Maintain service and repair data within the company database and reconcile for accuracy in reporting and tracking
Safety
Assist with the establishment and review of safety programs and ensure operational activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner
Maintain and foster a positive safety culture by encouraging every employee to internalize safety as a personal value
Teamwork
Develop talent by providing employees with coaching, feedback, exposure, and continuous improvement assignments
Coordinate with other external shops and facilities on warranty and repairs, to be completed in a timely and cost-effective manner
Work collaboratively across the organization to meet shared objectives including, but not limited to, identifying and implementing the proper preventative maintenance and repair needs of company equipment
Develop, maintain, and foster positive relationships with vendors and internal customers
Stewardship
Partner with multiple vendors to propose equipment to purchase and disposition based on application, maintenance, repair, total cost of ownership, etc.
Develop and execute strategies to make our fleet repair and maintenance process and spend as efficient as possible
Oversee and monitor preventative maintenance work and perform quality assurance audits
Conduct and/or oversee the road testing of complex or safety-related repairs
Maintain accurate records to meet all DOT record keeping requirements
Maintain all parts inventory and shop consumables used
Reliable, regular attendance at the worksite or assigned work location
Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of progressively responsible related experience, including at least 2 years of leadership experience in a similar role OR an equivalent combination of education and experience required
Experience with fleet telematics and computer diagnostic software preferred
Experience using a preventative maintenance system preferred
Experience with controlling parts inventory and ordering parts preferred
Mechanic, machining, welding, or paint shop experience preferred
At least 5 years of on highway vehicle management experience preferred
Industry experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Familiarity with basic DOT requirements
Familiarity with government regulation/policies and advising stakeholders on the company’s internal requirements
Familiarity with truck specifications ranging from medium duty to heavy trucks
Proactive, well-organized, and effective time management skills with the ability to lead and participate in multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Self-motivated and detail oriented, ensuring maintenance tasks are not overlooked and minor site problems do not become major site problems
Excellent verbal, written, and reading comprehension skills
Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, or electrical systems
Ability and knowledge to perform the most complex troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance tasks
Good mathematical skills including the ability to figure equations as required in analyzing fleet data
Ability to ensure accountability and instill trust with employees by following through on commitments and making sure others do the same
Ability to build rapport in an open, friendly, and accepting way across various levels of the organization
Must be able to effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences
Ability to travel occasionally for work to field locations and/or to attend meetings or training
Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Must be willing to obtain and maintain a minimum Class B CDL with air brakes
General knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, or electrical systems a plus
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, and weekends as required
Ability to work near, around, or on light or heavy equipment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lift objects of various dimensions and up to 100 lbs. of weight frequently
Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and ladders
Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
Ability to use vibration tools repeatedly
Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather
Ability to repeatedly reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged standing/walking/sitting
Ability to repeatedly walk on uneven surfaces
Ability to verbally communicate, see, and hear
