Job Summary

Our progressive and dedicated healthcare team strives to change the lives of our patients and provide exceptional care.

This is a fast-paced environment that requires critical thinking, teamwork, and good communication between staff and patients.

Under the direct supervision of the HIM Director, the coder will be responsible for accurate and timely coding of all discharge inpatient and outpatient medical records using the TrueCode coding software.

DUTIES:

Analyze medical records, identify relevant diagnoses, and services, and assigning corresponding codes.

Ensure codes are assigned correctly according to coding guidelines and regulations.

Code timely in order to meet the 5 day bill drop process while ensuring 95% coding accuracy.

Runs missing diagnosis report routinely to make sure all accounts are coded. Initiates follow-up on records uncoded

Manages workload

Assists with special projects during downtime.

Query provider to clarify documentation and diagnosis as needed.

Though we do need to meet some minimum requirements for the position such a High School Diploma or Equivalent, and the certifications or advanced degrees listed below, we're really looking for people who bring their HEART to work.

If you have previous experience in a mental healthcare hospital environment where your attention was focused on human behavior, psychiatry, psychology, or other mental healthcare situations, your application to this position will be immediately moved to the shortlist of candidates.

Through prevention, intervention, treatment, and education, we can and we will make a difference not just here in Bakersfield, but throughout our extended communities.

High School degree or equivalent required. Associate's or Bachelor’s degree preferred. One or more active Current coder certification through AHIMA or AAPC required (CCS/CPC). Knowledge of Medical Terminology. Experience with Trucode preferred. Excellent customer service. Knowledge of HIPAA. Detail oriented. Works well with others. Self-motivated in a fast-paced environment. Computer and office skills required.

You should have a current CPR certification when you apply or obtain certification prior to your start date.

If you don't have a current CPR certification, just let us know and we'll make sure you get it before you start -- and even cover the cost for you.

Additionally, you'll complete a "Handle-With-Care" Physical Restraint Technique Training during your orientation so that you know how and when to engage when such an event occurs.

The Coder position pays between $28.00 to $38.00 per hour based on the experience you bring with you.
