Job Description – Packaging Machine Operator
Under the direction of the Production Team Leader, The Packaging Machine Operator (PMO) is responsible for efficiently and effectively operating a packaging machine, controlling total finished product produced, and ensuring bag and product integrity. Packaging Machine Operators are a key component of our overall business success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Follow the guidelines of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), uniform and dress code, and product safety requirements.
Maintain departmental housekeeping standards, keeping work area clean and safe at all times.
Maintain a good attendance record and positive attitude.
Support company policies and be safety conscious at all times.
Ensure the quality of the finished product including:
The integrity of the product package itself, including back and end seals.
Customer-mandated code information and packaging machine efficiency.
Bag weight variance.
Code date integrity.
Verification of metal detector performance with Quality Assurance personnel.
Reporting all deviations associated with these parameters to the appropriate Team Leader and Quality Assurance personnel.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and operate all of the facility’s packaging machines.
Assist fellow Packaging Machine Operators, Packers, and Process Operators in ensuring departmental and organizational efficiency.
Communicate effectively with departmental and plant personnel.
Work extended schedules as the needs of the business dictate.
Work in other areas as workload demands.
Perform daily and weekly cleanup and sanitation, including the proper handling of cleaning equipment and cleaning chemicals, with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Requires general aptitude, mechanical, and organizational skills, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred and one to three months related experience to become familiar with equipment and processes.
Language Skills
Ability to read and write English.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to Team Leaders, managers, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job:
The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls; reach above shoulders; and talk and listen.
The employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and use foot/feet to operate machine.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job included close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
