Job Summary
Employees in this class are responsible for producing maps of the Rockdale County area, designating the existing and proposed water and sewer systems. Work includes providing support in the areas of gathering field data, surveying and utility locations. Employees are responsible for a variety of production tasks concerning mapping for internal and external customers. Work is assigned by the department's General Engineering Manager in terms of detailed and general instructions. Completed work is reviewed for accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Creates water line and sewer line maps for the Water Resources Department using as-built information from contractors and Global Positioning System (GPS) data.
Plot Rockdale County land lots for implementation into the Geographic Information System (GIS).
Documents electronic files on various Rockdale County engineering projects.
Provides and exchanges information on files for mapping with other County personnel.
Assists engineers on field surveys and gathers field research for projects to be detailed in electronic files.
Documents and maintains records of new sewer and water lines for the County and Water Department as needed.
Performs field inspections on various subdivisions and creates a punch list; installs flow monitoring equipment and monitors the flow of sewers.
Performs service locates for utility protection as needed.
Assists the general public with problems concerning water and sewer. Research files for existing services for developers, contractors, and operations personnel.
Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of board drafting, Computer-Aided Design and Drafting practices and techniques, and drafting instruments.
Knowledge of field survey and inspection procedures.
Knowledge of mathematics and algebra concepts and theories.
Knowledge of water and sewer construction techniques.
Knowledge of Water Resources Department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of local ordinances and codes regarding water and wastewater.
Skill in oral communications.
Skill in operating a personal computer, including using engineering design, drafting, and graphics software.
Skill in the use of manual drafting equipment.
Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, equipment manuals, and related literature.
Skill in the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment.
Ability to read engineering drawings.
Ability to perform basic engineering mathematical computations.
Ability to walk, bend, stoop, and crouch and to negotiate uneven terrain.
Ability to use a two-way radio.
Ability to interact with customers regarding their service.
Ability to lift objects weighing more than 20 pounds.
Ability to use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office with the employee sitting at a desk; however, some field work is also performed.
Minimum Qualifications
1) Associate's degree in drafting and design, civil engineering, civil engineering technology, or a related field.
2) One (1) year of experience in the design, drafting, development, or construction of water, sewer, and/or storm drainage systems, including some experience or training using Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software.
3) OR have a combination of education, training, and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
4) Valid State of Georgia driver's license.
