Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing accounting staff and ensures general accounting functions are performed accurately and timely including maintaining and overseeing all accounting procedures and processes. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for overseeing the accounting staff in assisting with financial reporting, analyzing data and preparing variance analysis.
Essential Functions
- Manages accounting staff to ensure completion of tasks such as journal entries, reconciliation of workpapers, and preliminary and final monthly financial reports.
- Oversees the month end close process. This includes creation and assignment of new fixed assets and maintenance throughout depreciation cycle; posting of monthly depreciation and annual roll forward of fixed assets; reconciliation of monthly bank deposits, bank statements.
- Accounting for payroll related transactions including the performace of the payroll export, intercompany reconciliations and assure management fee agreements, leases, etc are accounted for properly between the organizations each month.
- Assist the revenue/accounts receivable department to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc; funding service management, which includes weekly funding reports and customer service.
- Assists leadership in providing status of financial condition of the company by collecting, interpreting, and reporting key financial data.
- Assists in development and implementation of department accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with Accounting Software training and implementation.
- Assist with establishing and maintaining systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data.
- Keeps up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
- Assists in preparation and completion of annual Medicaid Cost Reports, Audits, 990’s and budget.
- Hires, trains, develops, and appraises staff effectively; Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy; Consults with Director and P&C as appropriate.
- Provides a wide variety of services to individuals throughout company – staff, clients, management, and board – and communicate in a courteous and professional manner.
- Adheres to company policies and procedures in addition to regulations, laws and other requirements from applicable governing bodies, certification, licensure and/or accreditation entities, etc.
- This job operates in a professional office environment.

Education, Skills, Experience and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance/Account or closely related field.
- 5 to 7 years of experience performing accounting function in a medium to large-sized nonprofit ($75+ million budget). Including strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage accounting staff effectively
- Strong understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and banking knowledge. Strong technical accounting skills and experience in audit, Medicaid cost accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and healthcare settings.
- Excellent computer skills – including experience with Sage Intacct software, Microsoft Office Suite tools – and ability to learn new programs expeditiously preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record, if applicable.
