Job Description

Northview Bank is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Mortgage Underwriter to evaluate and assess conventional and portfolio mortgage loan applications in compliance with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Reviews and analyzes loan applications, credit reports, income documentation, appraisals, and other supporting documents.

Evaluates borrower risk and determines loan eligibility based on company and investor guidelines.

Makes sound underwriting decisions, issuing approvals, suspensions, or denials with clear and concise documentation of rationale.

Ensures compliance with all applicable lending laws, regulations, company, and investor policies.

Communicates effectively with loan officers, processors, and other team members to gather necessary documentation and clarify underwriting decisions and requirements.

Maintains productivity and turnaround standards while delivering high-quality work.

Stays updated and communicates with team members changes occurring in the underwriting guidelines and regulations.

Participates in training, quality control audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent (bachelor’s degree preferred).

Minimum of 3 years of mortgage underwriting experience.

Proficient in automated underwriting systems (AUS) such as DU (Desktop Underwriter).

Strong knowledge of mortgage lending regulations and investor guidelines.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred:

Experience with Encompass loan origination software.

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple files simultaneously.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
