Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Level 2 Low Voltage Cable Technician to support structured cabling infrastructure in a high-availability data center environment. This role involves installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic cabling systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and data center protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, route, and secure low-voltage cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic) in overhead trays, underfloor systems, and racks
Terminate and test copper and fiber cables using appropriate tools and certification equipment (e.g., Fluke testers, OTDR)
Interpret and work from blueprints, floor plans, and cable run lists
Label and document all cabling according to data center standards
Perform moves, adds, and changes (MACs) for network and server infrastructure
Troubleshoot and repair connectivity issues in copper and fiber cabling systems
Maintain cleanliness and organization of cable pathways and telecom rooms
Adhere to safety protocols and ESD (electrostatic discharge) procedures
Collaborate with network engineers, project managers, and other technicians to support infrastructure projects
Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in low voltage cabling, preferably in a data center or critical environment
Proficient in terminating and testing Cat6/Cat6A and fiber optic cables (LC, SC, MPO)
Familiarity with ANSI/TIA/EIA standards and BICSI best practices
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and cable schematics
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
BICSI certification or equivalent (preferred)
OSHA 10 or 30 certification (preferred)
