Job Description
The Cost Accountant is responsible for supporting the overall cost accounting function including month-end close, inventory valuation, cost of goods sold and profitability analysis. This position will report to the Cost Accounting Senior Manager with exposure to the Controller, VP of Finance and other executive team members.
Responsibilities
Ensure that inventory is properly valued on the balance sheet and assist with the establishment of required reserves (as needed)
Help maintain the standard cost system including the analysis and disposition of variances and make periodic updates to standard costs
Assist with review and costing of new parts
Assist with physical inventory counts and reconciliations
Assist with the analysis and presentation of gross profit on a monthly basis to Management
Prepare journal entries, account fluctuation analysis and account reconciliations
Ensures the proper recognition of COGS
Partner with other departments to resolve variances and issues
Recognize evolving business process issues to ensure that proper accounting outcomes are achieved and controls are adequate
Assist with financial statement audits
Participate in ad hoc projects and analysis as needed
Ensure all reports, analysis, working files, and journal entries are organized and well-documented for clarity as well as quick and easy auditing
Requirements
BA/BS degree, accounting preferred
Analytical with the ability to effectively communicate insights to various audiences
Team player with the ability to collaborate with multiple departments
At least three years of cost accounting experience with manufacturing
Good understanding of GAAP and cost accounting concepts
Experience with an ERP (such as NetSuite or Oracle) in a manufacturing environment
Good problem-solving skills and advanced Excel skills
Strong attention to detail and deadline-oriented
