This position is responsible for underwriting commercial, residential, and consumer loan requests for the Bank, conducting annual reviews of commercial loan relationships, reviewing appraisals and evaluations prepared for the Bank, and ensuring the Bank’s underwriting aligns with internal policies and established and emerging underwriting standards and procedures. The position includes participation in the Bank's loan review process, grading functions and ensuring complete, timely and up-to-date documentation in all loan files.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Underwriting/Credit Analysis:

Underwrite commercial, residential, and consumer loans in accordance with the Bank’s loan policies and established underwriting standards and procedures.

· Gathers and analyzes loan applicants’ financial data to evaluate risk.

· Assesses creditworthiness of individuals, companies, and institutions.

· Prepare written credit memoranda for presentation to the appropriate loan approval authority.

· Discuss any perceived credit weaknesses or potential credit problems with Lenders; make recommendations as appropriate.

· Ensure loan underwriting aligns with all current and emerging secondary market investor guidelines.

· Perform detailed review of appraisals and evaluations for one-to-four family residential properties, commercial real estate, and equipment to determine acceptability of security for proposed loans.

· Review and approve any “prior to” conditions before a loan closing is scheduled.

· Assist with the packaging and delivery of all loans for sale to secondary market investors in a timely manner in accordance with all Bank and secondary market guidelines and requirements.

· Recommend changes in Bank operating policies and procedures to ensure continued compliance with current secondary market guidelines.

· Communicate with Lenders and the Bank’s Loan Processor to ensure that loans are underwritten and processed quickly and accurately.

· Comply with all Federal and State banking regulations and all Bank and department policies and procedures.

Loan Portfolio Maintenance:

Conduct annual reviews of existing commercial loan relationships, including financial trend analysis, covenant compliance, and credit risk reassessment. Analyze risks associated with the Bank’s vendors utilized in the lending process. Prepare loan reports for management as necessary.

· Discuss any perceived credit weaknesses or potential credit problems for existing relationships with Lenders; make recommendations as appropriate. Make recommendations about whether to adjust, extend, or close commercial lines of credit.

· Review existing commercial loan files to ensure that all appropriate and current documentation is in place. Maintain a tracking system for documentation, including customer notifications and follow-up.

· Prepare reports as necessary for the Loan Review Committee, Executive Loan Committee, and Board of Directors.

· Annually review risk associated with the Bank’s vendors utilized in the lending process.

· Assist in gathering documentation and preparing reports for internal and external audits.

Departmental Support:

Assist the Loan Processor(s) as needed to deliver excellent internal and external customer service. Support the loan department in other areas as needed, including special projects and cross-functional tasks.

Customer Service:

Provide prompt, courteous service to customers. Refer prospective customers to an appropriate Lender.

Other Outside Activities:

Participate in industry trade group meetings and educational programs to remain abreast of current issues and requirements affecting Bank operations and job performance.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or equivalent work experience.

· Strong academic background in financial analysis, accounting, or credit-related coursework.

· Internship or part-time experience in banking, finance, or a related field is a plus but not required.

· Familiarity with secondary market concepts or underwriting software is a plus but not required.

Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.

High degree of ethics and must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding bank business and customer information.

Ability to learn quickly and to retain what has been learned.

Eagerness to growth within a collaborative banking environment and contribute to cross-functional projects.

Proficiency with the Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft Office.

Able to present a professional, businesslike image to customers in business appropriate attire.

Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.

Fluent in English.

Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Able to spend extended periods of time operating a computer keyboard and working at a computer monitor.

Must have no record of felony criminal convictions or serious financial citations.
