Job Description: The Directional Drill Operator is responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install underground utilities, pipelines, and conduits. This role requires expertise in handling drilling machinery, interpreting project plans, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of drilling operations. The operator works closely with the drill locator to navigate the drill head accurately and avoid underground obstacles.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate Drilling Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate directional drilling machines and related equipment to execute planned bore paths.

Drill Path Planning: Interpret and execute drilling plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure precise installation of utilities.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.

Monitor Drilling Operations: Continuously monitor the drilling process, making adjustments as necessary to maintain accuracy and avoid obstacles.

Communication: Maintain clear communication with the drill locator and other team members to coordinate drilling activities and respond to feedback.

Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns.

Problem Solving: Quickly identify and address any issues or obstacles encountered during the drilling process.

Documentation: Record and report drilling data, including depths, positions, and any deviations from the planned path.

Qualifications:

Experience: Previous experience as a directional drill operator or in a similar role is essential. Class A CDL is preferred. Excavator and skid loader experience is preferred.

Knowledge: Understanding of HDD processes, drilling equipment, underground utilities, and construction site safety.

Skills: Proficiency in operating directional drilling machines and interpreting drilling plans. Strong problem-solving, communication, and mechanical skills.

Physical Fitness: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

Certifications: Relevant certifications or training in HDD operations, equipment handling, and safety procedures are advantageous.

Working Conditions:

Environment: Outdoor construction sites, exposed to varying weather conditions.

Schedule: Full-time, with potential for overtime and weekend work depending on project requirements; potential for 8 on and 6 off.

Travel: Paid traveling to different job sites.
