Job Description
Western Way Custom Meat is looking for a Journeyman Butcher to join our team. In this position, you will pre-cut and package meat, make specific cuts for customers, and answer any questions customers may have about our selection. You are also responsible for keeping your area clean and sanitized with disinfectant. Health and safety management is a major part of your job. While you are not responsible for cooking the meat, you should have some culinary arts experience so you can advise customers on how to prepare basic poultry, beef, or pork dishes.
Butcher Duties and Responsibilities
Weighing and cutting meat to meet the client's specifications.
Wrapping and packing meat products according to company guidelines.
Working with the storage management department to ensure that all products are stored properly.
Cut and package meats
Prepare specific cuts for customers
Keep track of inventory
Sanitize and clean your workspace
Break down beef, pork, poultry, or other meat products into various cuts
Weigh out portions for sale
Wrap and package products for sale
Grind meat products for sale as necessary
Prepare sausages and cured meats
Properly sanitize all equipment with disinfectant
Follow all safety guidelines
Butcher Requirements and Qualifications
Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational program
Food production and manufacturing sanitation experience
Strong communication and customer service skills
Physical strength and stamina
Culinary knowledge
High school diploma or GED certificate preferred
Prior meat cutting experience is MANDATORY
Knife skills MANDATORY
Knowledgeable about various cuts of meat and proper cooking techniques
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand for up to 8 hoursCompany Description
