Job Description: The Directional Drill Locator is responsible for accurately locating the drill head during horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations. This role involves working closely with the drill operator to ensure the drill follows the planned bore path while avoiding underground utilities and obstacles. The locator uses specialized equipment and techniques to track the drill head's position and depth.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate Locating Equipment: Use electronic locating devices to track and determine the precise location and depth of the drill head.

Communication: Maintain constant communication with the drill operator to provide accurate directions and adjustments.

Plan Execution: Follow detailed drilling plans and blueprints to ensure the bore path is executed accurately and safely.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.

Problem Solving: Quickly identify and address any issues or obstacles encountered during the drilling process.

Documentation: Record and report drill head location data, depths, and any deviations from the planned path.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on locating equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.

Qualifications:

Experience: Previous experience as a directional drill locator or in a similar role is preferred. Class A CDL is preferred. Excavator and skid loader experience is preferred.

Knowledge: Understanding of HDD processes, underground utilities, and construction site safety.

Skills: Proficiency in using electronic locating equipment and interpreting data. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Physical Fitness: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

Certifications: Relevant certifications or training in HDD locating and safety procedures are advantageous.

Working Conditions:

Environment: Outdoor construction sites, exposed to varying weather conditions.

Schedule: Full-time, with potential for overtime and weekend work depending on project requirements; potential for 8 on and 6 off.

Travel: Paid traveling to different job sites.
