Position Description:
The College of Nursing and Health Professions (CONHP) is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented, and engaging Academic Advisor for students in the accelerated and online RN-BSN undergraduate nursing program, the exercise science program, international students, and transfer students to guide, direct, instruct, and advise students to matriculate in the CONHP. Academic advisors engage in student recruitment, retention, assessment, and management using various approaches. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be a key contributor to the overall success of students within the CONHP. Major Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities involve assisting students in navigating their academic journey by providing guidance, support, and resources to achieve their educational goals. The Academic Advisor assists with the following:
Advise students on registration, review requirements, and options for progressing towards completion of degree requirements.
Provide interventions for social, emotional, psychological, economic, and academic student problems and refer for support and help as appropriate.
Coordinate advising sessions for FOCUS, guiding students through the course selection process and curriculum requirements. Participate in Personal Visit Days for students within your programs.
Evaluate progressions standards for all CONHP students by meeting with the Dean and Chair of the Academic Standards Committee to prepare official records.
Communicate with faculty/department chairs across campus about courses and seats that students need to complete their academic progression.
Attend meetings within the CONHP and across campus as assigned.
Other duties as requested by the Dean.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in an academic environment, with a strong understanding of academic processes, faculty and student interactions, and data management. One must have good communication skills and be able to deal with a wide range of students in a calm yet authoritative manner.

Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to deal with a wide range of students calmly yet authoritatively.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Basic knowledge of collegiate curriculum.
