NOTE: Training schedule for the first 3 months will be 11:30 am – 8:00 pm.
Description:
Makes complex set-ups and performs first article and/or in-process dimensional and visual inspection of machined parts and completed precision bearing assemblies at various stages of manufacturing to determine conformance to established specifications, tolerances and workmanship standards.
Essential Functions Of The Job:
Interprets blueprints, sketches, process sheets, engineering specifications and standards to perform first article and in process dimensional visual checking of manufactured parts at various stages to assure conformance to standard. Utilizes shop math in all dimensional checking as well as precision measuring devices.
Sets up and uses standard and special gages and/or related precision measuring devices to check parts and assemblies for conformance to specifications. Utilizes reference handbooks used by inspection and manufacturing to figure angle function involving trigonometry in setting up gages. Recognizes faulty gauging techniques and corrects same.
Verifies all gauging prior to completing dimensional checks on parts in process or from vendors.
Inspects materials received from vendors for conformance to specification, cleanliness, structure and hardenability.
Checks parts visually for burrs, finish, burns and any related defects that would be cause for the rejection of parts.
Checks completed assemblies for functional and other operating characteristics using standard and special test apparatus.
Inspects returned goods to verify if the cause or failure or rejection is as stated by customer. Fills out the required charts, forms and reports.

Education:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
Experience:
Requires at least 5 years experience as a precision inspector for machine shop operations and at least one year of experience in inspection of bearings or similar high precision products and assemblies.
CMM inspection knowledge is a plus.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
Must be able to read blueprints and be thoroughly familiar with mechanical and electrical gages and gauging techniques.
Competency in reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to effectively speak before groups of customers or before employees within the organization.
Competency to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.
Ability to deal with standardized situations that have only occasional or no variables.
Physical & Environmental Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee generally works indoors within the office and manufacturing areas.
The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate or loud.
Also, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or to hear.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
