What You’ll do as a Software Development Specialist 2 in Data Capture
This position will work with the Development, Support, Infrastructure, and Production Systems teams in order to meet the agency's needs to support the business community directly, and taxpayers indirectly.
General duties for the position include\:
· Day to day development support of various systems.
· Comprehensive Unit and System/Integration testing
· Occasional new Development, but mostly support on the legacy system
· For the future, prepare to learn and support Taxation’s new Enterprise system known as OH Tax (FAST Software, GenTax.)
Below is an outline of some of the legacy systems the position may support:
The Ohio Department of Taxation maintains an integrated System known as Data Capture (DC). Specifically, DC includes OCR software provided by FairFax Inc. featuring the Quick Modules Application. The overall process includes the use of IBML High Speed Scanners and IBM’s FileNet Content Manager. The system is .NET based with a MS SQL Server Backend.
Taxation also maintains an integrated Tax Administration System known as STARS. Specifically, the STARS suite includes the core Oracle PSRM product and other peripheral components (i.e. EngageOne, FileNet, COGNOS, PeopleSoft, DataStage, IBM App connect). STARS is JAVA based with an Oracle Backend, running on WebSphere.
In addition, the Department maintains an integrated Tax Administration System known as Tax Equalization. Tax Equalization is a process in which the Department ensures uniformity and fairness in property taxation through its oversight of the appraisal work of local County Auditors. Auditors routinely conduct a full reappraisal of real property. This information is needed for the Tax Equalization System (TE). The TE system is used internally. It is JAVA based with a DB2 & MS SQL Server Backend, running on WebSphere.
