Job Description

IT Technician opportunity with growing, successful regional family owned and professionally managed company that is based in Petersburg, VA serving customers since 1934. This opportunity will report directly to the Company IT Manager and will be responsible for ensuring the streamlined operation of the IT Department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization.

Essential

Serve as first level support - take phone calls and emails from end users requesting support or needing questions answered about day to day functions of our IT environment. We have a Microsoft Windows network with Microsoft 365 business software. Devices attach to this network via direct ethernet connections, secure wireless access points, or remotely via the internet. This network interfaces in a Wide Area Network with several applications and products:

IBM iSeries with legacy ERP software coded in RPG & accessed via IBM iAccess for Windows

Sage MAS 500 Accounting Suite

M-LINX Mobile Route Delivery system

Textile industry specific software such as Colmac soil counting system

Keep inventory of computers, printers, monitors, tablets, company cell phones, IT related assets - manage this inventory as related to asset tags, maintenance, support contracts, asset disposals, etc. as needed.

Analyze and recommend purchases, upgrades, and disposals of IT equipment such as desktop computers and laptops. Assist in the imaging and setup of these devices when being prepared for entry into the work environment. Also, clean devices of any proprietary information and dispose of properly (sale or donation) including proper asset disposal forms as assets are removed from ownership.

Bonus

Assist with questions and issues as related to basic iSeries functionality - ability to actually create and/or modify RPG programs would be a bonus. Any prior knowledge of MARS or our systems would of course be helpful.

Assist with management of our CISCO Adaptive Security Appliances and our Wide Area Network (WAN) between all locations including but not limited to the VPN tunnels and connections between the various ISPs.

Qualifications

Information Technology degree or related workforce experience in a Windows business environment.

Experience in support would be greatly preferred

Good people person due to the nature of being first level support

Ability to work independently

Be organized and orderly due to the responsibility of assisting with the management of a large amount of valuable company assets worth quite a bit of money.

IBM iSeries experience would be a plus
