Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for product reliability plans, execution and qualification reporting for OCS product family
Perform early assessments of new optical and active component technologies based on a strong knowledge of materials science, process/fabrication, customer/field application, environmental stress failure modes. Component responsibilities include externally-sourced lasers, modulators, photodetectors, IC’s, and optical components and subassemblies.
Work with Supply Line Engineers to define component level qualification plans and recommend subassembly and/or transceiver level evaluations based on FMEA risk assessment.
Compile reliability estimates and qualification data from internal and external sources, archiving the associated reports in document controls system.
Work with Supply Line Engineers to assess component level DFM risk of new technology platform and make recommendations to project team.
Continually assess risk the components/subassemblies may pose, escalating high risk issues and making recommendations to the team and to management as warranted.
Negotiate reliability testing requirements and ongoing quality testing requirements with applicable customers
Integrate stress testing and inspection procedures for production products to ensure conformity with specifications and standards, recommend corrective actions when needed.
Supervise quality personnel to ensure proper implementation of quality / reliability procedures and processes
Customer interface on return material (RMA) issues, including technical and quality issues
Maintain RMA process; implement corrective actions based on field returns and customer input.
Implement and maintain supplier and internal corrective action system
Work with engineering team on failure analysis and root cause analysis for supplier non-conforming material.
Monitor production of materials to meet quality specifications and standards
Support design improvements of processes to maintain quality production
Establish policies and procedures for maintaining an effective quality control program
Investigate product quality problems and recommend changes or improvements
Support management review process with site leadership
Maintain ISO certifications as required, schedule and run annual ISO recertification audits, as well as customer audits as necessary.
Implement and manage the product quality processes by ensuring the integration of global quality systems where applicable
Education & Experience
Master/PhD in materials science/physics/other relevant field or equivalent experience
Experience of managing quality
Analytical problem solving and failure analysis skills
Capable of managing multiple projects
Experience with qualifications and reliability testing and failure analysis
Strong spoken and written communication skills (also fluent in English)
Experience communicating with external customers preferred.
Skills
Assess the risk and develop mitigation for all levels of product integration.
Support supplier audits with technical expertise, assess factory capability, process controls, reliability models, and product roadmaps.
Support the setup of infrastructure to perform incoming component validation.
Evaluate and/or recommend analytical techniques for effective failure analysis.
Experience with subsystem and system level quality and reliability requirements
Experience working with integrated systems with a high number of electrical and optical interconnects
Working Conditions
This position is onsite
May require occasional off-site meetings or travel
Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary
Interaction with team members and external contacts is a regular part of the job
May require occasional overtime and flexibility in work hours to accommodate the executive’s needs
Physical Requirements
Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or conducting meetings.
Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for administrative tasks.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Mobility within the office environment to attend meetings or interact with colleagues.
