Job Description:
SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a full-time Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) Advisor to join their ASAP team. Reporting to the ASAP Director, the ASAP Advisor provides individual academic and personal support to ASAP program students. The position's efforts include student outreach and onboarding and continued student support as they progress through the program. Position duties and responsibilities include collaborating with internal and external constituencies to assist with and support ASAP program implementation including tracking program metrics, collecting data, and assisting with completing reports on program performance. The ASAP Advisor is a professional (unrepresented), full-time, 12-month, grant-funded position.
ASAP is a three-year program that is designed to remove barriers to college success and completion for students seeking associate degrees. ASAP offers students financial, academic, and personal supports. ASAP students are required to enroll full time and are encouraged to take any required developmental education courses in the first semester.
Responsibilities:
Delivers comprehensive advisement support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion.
Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services.
Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.
Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs.
Supports annual recruitment of new students into the program.
Organizes periodic special events and programs for students, faculty, and staff.
Conduct or support delivery of student seminars on issues of importance to students.
Assists with developing and implementing procedures consistent with the ASAP replication effort, including collaborating with other College units, to meet the program's mission.
Assists with collecting, tracking, reporting, and analyzing outcome data and managing student progress to achieve program metrics.
Assists with ASAP student program recruitment and the ASAP summer enrichment program.
Assists with developing and implementing strategies to improve ASAP student performance and retention.
Assists with developing interventions to support at-risk students.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
One year of professional experience, or the equivalent, in secondary or post-secondary education
Must be able to work select evenings and weekend hours during which the Advisement Center is open
Experience working with various standard computer software programs (i.e. Excel, Banner, Access, and Word)
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree
Experience working in a community college setting and prior academic advisement experience preferred
Experience with technology; Banner, DegreeWorks, and/or retention software, i.e. Starfish
