General Statement of Duties
This position is in the Facilities Operations division of General Services. The work involves preventive maintenance, repairs and installations of the plumbing systems for the Law Enforcement Detention Center (LEDC). This position will be required to maintain plumbing fixtures, pumps, drain lines, etc. and all other aspects of the plumbing trade will assist other trade groups with routine maintenance.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.

A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the procedures, materials, and equipment related to the Plumbing trade and the maintenance of these systems.
Considerable knowledge of Plumbing Systems,installation and maintenance and problem indication.
Knowledge of a variety of systems including but are not limited to air cooled, water cooled, hot water systems, chilled water systems, VAV systems, cooling towers and building automation control systems.
General knowledge of the occupational hazards of building trades and maintenance work and associated safety precautions.
Working knowledge of plumbing systems, ability to maintain and repair, evaluate issues and determine appropriate action required.
General knowledge of County purchasing policies and procedures.
Ability to assign, direct, and supervise the work of others.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
Ability to exercise tact and extend courtesy in contact with the general public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on physical climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
Ability to perform simple to complex movements requiring moderate coordination.
Must have visual perception and ability to discriminate colors.
Must be able to perceive and discriminate odors/sounds.
Must be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time as required by work assignments.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED and at least three years of maintenance experience in the plumbing trade; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the minimum qualification requirements
Completion of a technical school program or certification in the relevant trade is preferred
A valid NC drivers license is required
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Identify components in advanced plumbing systems, understand how each component works, diagnose and correct complex problems in the plumbing systems.
Plan and execute plumbing repairs and modifications.
Troubleshoot and repair or replace domestic hot water pumps, chilled water pumps, sump pumps, and sewage pumps.
Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on various types of water heaters and backflow preventers Install new water heaters, sinks, piping, backflow preventers, various valves and other equipment.
Review new facilities construction blueprints for the plumbing trade and note corrections or potential problems for re-design and specifications consideration.
Oversees work performed by outside contractors. Ensures full scopes of work are implemented by the contractor and gives suggestions on potential problems.
Conduct weekly Fire Pump run tests required by the National Fire Protection Association.
Purchase material and supplies as necessary; maintain equipment inventories; obtain items from qualified vendors, or seek bids and price quotes according to established policy. Performs related work as required.
