Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide instruction in Math and English/Language Arts to students with special needs.
This role may also involve supporting students in Humanities and Science, depending on individual needs.
Instructional settings may vary:
Some students may receive push-in support within general education classrooms.
Others may require direct instruction in core subjects including Humanities and Science.
Grade levels are currently being assessed and may include:
One class of 7th/8th grade students and another of 9th/10th grade students,
or
A configuration such as grades 7–9 and 10–12.
Special Education Teacher is responsible for:
Assessing students’ developmental, cognitive, emotional and social needs, and learning styles; providing developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs
Completing academic testing as required, utilizing the resulting information along with classroom observations to identify students to be placed in or out of the Special Education program
Working collaboratively with classroom teachers to develop and implement developmentally appropriate instruction and activities that integrate, support, and expand the SLCS curricula
Developing, monitoring, and reporting on all IEPs within the established guidelines
Ensuring differentiated instruction, accommodations, modifications and other IEP considerations are occurring consistently as outlined in the IEP
Acting as an advocate for all students to ensure that their needs are being met
Evaluating student performance and sharing information with the classroom teacher, support teachers, and administration
Working in cooperation with classroom teachers to identify students who may be at risk academically and/or behaviorally
Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification in Special Education 7-12 or K-12
Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification in Math & English 7-12 helpful
Prior Experience teaching English/Language Arts helpful
Prior experience with International Baccalaureate MYP or DP programmes a plus
Understanding and commitment to inclusive learning
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Strong research, planning, and organizational skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to positively interact with students to encourage development
Experience with MS Office, Google Docs
