The Resources and Acquisition Bureau is seeking an experienced and proactive design and construction specialist to join our team as a Facilities Engineer 1. This role plays a key part in the Bureau's mission by supporting the statewide facilities. In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for managing a variety of projects from concept through completion, including design development, construction administration, and facility inspections. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills and a hands-on approach to overseeing infrastructure improvements. You will also serve as a key liaison with DOT staff, leading meetings to understand needs, present solutions, and ensure successful project outcomes.

As a Project Architect/Manager your duties will include, but are not limited to:

Operational and Project Support: Assist Bureau leadership with facilities management, budget analysis, master planning, life and safety evaluations and project coordination. Including urgent, mission-critical projects and statewide vertical infrastructure initiatives.

Project Management: Oversee the design, project timeline, drafting, specifications, budget, communication, and construction administration of facility projects ranging in scope and scale. Typical projects include, but are not limited to, door replacements, roof replacements, additions, remodels and new facility construction.

Design & Construction Administration: This role will design and manage vertical infrastructure projects from start to finish. Site inspections, project identification, design, budget analysis and construction management are key responsibilities of this role. The Architectural Services Team uses Revit to design and create construction documents.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Manage and communicate project status updates to the Bureau and statewide DOT stakeholders, ensuring they are informed of project progress, challenges, and milestones. Foster collaboration and maintain clear communication with internal and external partners.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, or Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, Construction, Fire Protection or a related engineering field and four years of full-time professional experience in the design and construction of buildings, utilities, earthwork, or related facilities and structures; and/or work with building codes, fire codes and handicapped accessibility regulations, direct involvement in the preparation of architectural or building engineering construction documents or in the review of such documents for conformance with applicable portions of these codes and regulations;

ORan equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of the required full time professional experience for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education to a maximum of four years;

ORpossession of a valid Professional Engineer license recognized by the Iowa Board of Engineering Examiners and two years of the above described professional experience;

ORpossession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Architect recognized by the Iowa Board of Architectural Examiners and two years of the above described professional experience.
