Responsibilities:

Controls crane movement in response to hand signals or radio commands, always verifying that the pathway is clear of people and objects. Makes decision not to operate crane if jobsite conditions, weather or other factors would deem it unsafe.

Monitors the movement/placement of crane to prevent tip/rollover. Ensure swamp pads are utilized when variable soil conditions are present.

Participates in planning critical lifts.

Approves rigging determined by foreman taking final responsibility for equipment used to lift product into place using slings, and other rigging equipment.

Responsible for indirect supervision of the Oiler on the jobsite ensuring all safety and task-oriented components are met. Participate in the growth of rigging personnel through on-the-job instruction.

Identifies and informs Foreman when spotters are required. Assures workers are at a safe distance from work radius of machine, and barricading swing radius of crane.

Performs daily inspection and completes reports.

Conducts routine maintenance to include greasing of all moving parts to prevent mechanical breakdowns, checking of fluid levels and air pressure in tires and, keeps inside/outside clean to keep crane in good working order.

Always operates with outriggers in place. Insures beepers, back-up warning, horns and other safety equipment in working order and used.

Daily inspects set-up area for clearance from buildings, equipment, materials, and overhead power lines.

Participation and collaboration in onsite meetings to ensure site requirements are clearly communicated.

Added Responsibilities:

Jobsite visits for preconstruction planning as requested by Molin PM and/or SUPT

Miscellaneous duties as assigned by Foreman.

Follows direction from flagman, flagging and reflectors when operating on streets

Forklift and other small equipment use as required

When requested, participation in site safety audits via company provided tablet

Education and Experience:

High school education or equivalent

Journeyman crane operator with at least 3 years experience with hydraulic, mobile cranes

NCCCO Certified Crane Operator for large hydro cranes or equivalent

Rigging and signalperson certification through the Union preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Passion for safety

Must be comfortable working from heights

Ability to operate mobile hydraulic cranes

Understanding of all Federal and State regulations regarding crane operations and jobsite safety to include both DOT and OSHA requirements, particularly OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, Cranes and Derricks in Construction.

Able to send and receive OSHA approved hand signals for safe crane operation

Capacity to remain calm even during stressful driving conditions

Excellent team player

Good verbal communications skills

Excellent eye-hand coordination and spatial intelligence

Aptitude for reading maps and construction drawings

Skilled in use of power tools (saws, drills)

Strong problem solving abilities

Good organization and planning skills

Basic math concepts to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Licenses/Certificates:

Valid Class A driver’s license with DOT health card required

Valid crane-operator certificate for large mobile cranes (NCCCO card)

OSHA 10/30

Forklift certificate

Member of Local 49

Physical Demands:

Sit for long periods of time

Frequent lifting up to 30 lbs.; infrequent to 50 lbs.

Frequent hand and wrist movement

Environmental & Working Conditions:

Exposed to extreme temperatures

Work at high elevations frequently

Exposure to loud noises controlled through hearing protection

Exposure to dust and fumes controlled through personal protective equipment

Uneven terrain and heights above ground.

Damp conditions and sometimes below ground.

Some overnight travel required
