Salary: $22-$25/hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Research & Development (R&D) Manager, the R&D Technician supports product development by conducting research, sourcing ingredients, evaluating lab samples, and developing manufacturing processes. This role is responsible for ensuring that formulations meet quality, regulatory, and customer requirements.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Calibrate lab equipment, including scales, pH meters, and refractometers
Conduct research based on customer requests or product concepts
Develop product formulations from concept to finished design
Source new ingredients and obtain necessary documentation
Prepare and evaluate bench-top samples for integrity and performance
Create nutrition/supplement facts and maintain accurate records
Develop manufacturing processes and assist with scale-up testing
Draft master formulas, batch records, and mixing instructions
Conduct pilot tests and train production/quality personnel on new processes
Manage raw material samples, storage, and documentation for easy retrieval
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe R&D laboratory environment
Update nutritional data using Genesis R&D software
Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of R&D or R&D Manager
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Bachelors degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
At least one year of experience in a cGMP-regulated industry
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and industry software (ROSS, Genesis R&D)
Strong math and chemistry knowledge
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking skills
Ability to analyze experimental data and document findings accurately
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged periods of standing in the laboratory
Frequent use of a computer and laboratory equipment
Ability to lift and move materials (up to 25 lbs) as needed
Adherence to lab safety protocols, including proper handling of chemicals
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
