JOB SUMMARY
Manage the daily operations of the Drafting Department to ensure work is completed accurately and on-time, as well as support the Construction and Purchasing and Estimating Teams as needed. Additionally, assist in plan development, including floor plans, exterior elevations and management of the current product library and standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage Drafting Team’s daily operations. Assigns, schedules, reviews assigned projects as well as tracks performance against goals. Tasks include Initial CAD Drawings, Structural Changes, Design Gallery Changes, Lot Fits.
Manages employees, including training and development and areas for improvement.
Review of drawings and plans to ensure quality of work and project feasibility.
Collaborate with construction, purchasing, estimating, and marketing teams to ensure plans are accurate, cost-effective, and visually marketable as well as answer questions and provide support and look for ways to improve workflow and communication.
Specifies materials, trims, fixtures, and construction assemblies and design options.
Maintains familiarity with changes in field concepts, practices and procedures. Ensures efficiency of the in-house plan review process.
Ensure compliance with local building codes, zoning ordinances, and company standards. Maintains knowledge of applicable building codes, zoning ordinances, and other legal regulations.
Maintain and update a library of existing standard floor plans (construction-ready documents), front elevations, and structural options across all communities.
Assists in conception, design and planning of new and existing models in CAD in terms of depicting sketch concepts and formatting approved concepts to standardized plans and options.
Establish and maintain department design criteria and archiving old products and options.
Manage Design Build Agreement Plan Design and assist in New Product Design
Accomplishes other tasks as assigned by the President, Executive Vice President, or Director of Design and Selections.
COMPETENCIES
10+ years of experience in residential architectural design, product development, or drafting for a homebuilding company.
Deep understanding of residential construction methods and architectural design principles.
Ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail and deadlines.
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software.
Attention to detail.
Ability to plan and organize one’s own activities.
Ability to prioritize activities and orders.
Proficient in 2D and 3D drafting and rendering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Chief Architect, Enscape, Lumion, or similar.
Strong portfolio showcasing residential design and 3D visualization capabilities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Residential Design, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience in production home building or regional residential development.
Familiarity with building codes, structural systems, and value engineering practices.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in architectural design.
At least five years’ experience in residential architectural design.
