OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer with 1-5 years of experience to support Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation and cybersecurity compliance efforts across Department of Defense (DoD) programs. This is an excellent opportunity for a rising cyber professional to work alongside engineers, ISSOs, and system owners in a mission-critical environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, system administrators, and program managers to produce clear, compliant, and user-focused technical documentation in support of mission operations, systems engineering, and cybersecurity compliance. This role requires experience in technical writing within a government or defense contracting environment, particularly involving SATCOM systems, network communications, and DoD documentation standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1–5 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in a cyber or DoD environment.

Basic familiarity with RMF or similar frameworks (e.g., NIST SP 800-53, DoDI 8510.01).

Strong command of Microsoft Word and document formatting tools.

Clear, concise writing style with high attention to detail.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Must hold or be eligible to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Exposure to eMASS, XACTA, or other compliance tools.

Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, system engineering, or IT.

CompTIA Security+ or other IAT Level I/II certifications a plus.

Familiarity with Agile, DevSecOps, or ITIL processes beneficial but not required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Draft, edit, and maintain RMF cybersecurity documentation, including:

System Security Plans (SSPs)

POA&Ms

Security Assessment Reports (SARs)

Risk Assessments

Collaborate with cybersecurity staff to ensure accurate and complete information gathering.

Support compliance with NIST SP 800-53, DoDI 8510.01, and other applicable guidance.

Assist with the population and maintenance of documentation in eMASS or similar tools.

Maintain clear and version-controlled records of all security documentation.

Prepare and format content for technical presentations, checklists, and reports as needed.

SKILLS

Strong ability to produce accurate, well-structured, and user-friendly documentation. Ability to quickly learn and articulate complex topics related to satellite communications and IT networks. Effective at working cross-functionally with engineers, program managers, and compliance teams. Skilled at managing multiple documentation projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. High attention to detail with strong proofreading and editing capabilities and understanding of government standards. Experience with documentation tools such as SharePoint, Confluence, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, or MadCap Flare. Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and documentation processes.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $100,00.00 annually (based on experience and qualifications)
