To support ongoing research in the van der Meer Lab.Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:
Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experienceRequired Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree with a major in a relevant discipline (for instance, Neuroscience, Psychology, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science)
One year of laboratory/research experience in neuroscience or a related field
Skills and Knowledge
Ability to learn quickly from direct mentoring, from observation, and from self-reflection.
Competent in laboratory methods, procedures and techniques related to behavioral and neural recording experiments in rodents.
Experience with computer programming in MATLAB or Python.
Good judgment in monitoring data quality.
Organizational skills to manage laboratory inventory and records.
Communicates respectfully with a diverse community.
Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
Good time management skills.

Research/Experiments
Performs rodent experiments, including but not limited to: behavioral training, stereotaxic surgery, and recording of neural signals
Constructs electrodes and optical fibers for neural recording.
Processes collected data using established analysis pipelines.
Identifies, troubleshoots, and corrects or recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental methods, procedures, and techniques; or equipment and facilities.
Adheres to laboratory safety requirements including general and chemical/hazardous waste safety disposal methods.
Training in the above will be provided by senior lab personnel.

Laboratory Management
Monitors work in progress to ensure accomplishment is timely and in accordance with reasonable methods and standards.
Manages stock levels of lab consumables and helps organize lab space.
Assists in the maintenance of rat/mouse colonies including handling and weighing of animals, managing breeding pairs, and entering data into spreadsheets.

Applies sound data management procedures, such as following naming conventions and backing up acquired data to secure locations.
