Job Title: Billing & Coding Specialist

Location: Greater Houston, TX 77002

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Pay: $15.00/hour (Weekly Pay)

Overview:

Openwork is seeking an experienced Billing & Coding Specialist with over 5 years of expertise in medical billing and denial resolution, ideally within the public health sector such as Harris County Public Health. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and dedicated to improving billing accuracy and reimbursement outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze procedures and modifiers to resolve claim rejections, denials, and appeals

Ensure timely, accurate billing of services provided

Work with Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial payers to troubleshoot claim issues

Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to ensure proper coding and documentation

Review billing data for accuracy and reimbursement optimization

Generate and analyze billing and A/R reports

Recommend process improvements to reduce denials and enhance revenue cycle efficiency

Requirements:

5+ years of billing and coding experience with a focus on denial resolution

3+ years working with EMRs (Electronic Medical Records)

Active Billing & Coding Certification required

High School Diploma and valid Texas driver’s license

Strong data entry and communication skills

Basic computer proficiency (Outlook preferred)

Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and perform prolonged standing/bending
