Field Interviewers are responsible for:
Traveling frequently to selected hospitals and birthing facilities to recruit new parents of newborn children
Making in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participation
Administering screening questions to determine study eligibility, collecting confidential information, and administering standardized questionnaires
Managing administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings
Transmitting data as scheduled
Performing a nonresponse follow-up by contacting parents via phone at a later date who did not complete the survey
Assuming full and legal responsibility for use and care of project issued equipment
Safeguarding any participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft
Assuming responsibility for and carefully tracking all participant incentives
Submitting timely and accurate Time and Expense reports
Attending virtually scheduled meetings with other members of the project team
RTI International is seeking part time Bilingual [Spanish/English] field interviewers to travel onsite to local hospitals and birthing facilities to introduce the Guilford Readiness of Children for School Study (Guilford ROCs) and gain participation. Field interviewers will be responsible for having an in-depth understanding of the study, its importance, and future impact. Using a tablet, field interviewers will gain consent from eligible new parents to complete a brief screener to determine study eligibility. If they choose to complete it later, field interviewers will provide them with additional information such as login credentials. Parents who complete the screener and agree to complete the survey will be given a monetary incentive. Field interviewers will perform a nonresponse follow-up by contacting parents via phone at a later date who did not complete the survey.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
Must be at least 21 years old at time of employment
Comfortable working in hospital and medical facilities
Field interview or surveying experience – OR – notable customer service experience
Demonstrated ability to engage diverse populations with empathy and cultural sensitivity
Ability to work a variable work schedule, as dictated by hospital schedules (primarily weekdays with occasional weeknights as needed)
Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening
Fluency in English and Spanish through reading, writing, and speaking
Available for entire training and data collection period
Able to successfully complete trainings
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal automobile available for business use
Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop, and other associated equipment
Access to password protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmission and administrative responsibilities
Able to keep project information confidential
Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark
Technical skills with ability to troubleshoot tablet connectivity issues
Ability to use laptop for project activities, enter information in web-based systems, view electronic reports, and communicate via email
Preferred Qualifications for Ideal Candidates
Bachelor's Degree
Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people from culturally-diverse backgrounds
Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines
Experience working with tablets and computers, namely email and internet proficiency
Comfortable working in unfamiliar areas
The data collection period is expected to be August, 2025 through December, 2025
On average, you will be needed approximately 15 hours per week when work is available
On average, you should be available to work in the field/phone component 3 days each week
The majority of this work is anticipated to be weekdays during daytime hours. Occasional weeknights as needed
Each of your trips to the field are expected to be at least 5 hours long
Field Interviewers are required to complete trainings which include:
Successfully complete pre-training activities such as manual reading and online training modules
Successfully complete hospital associated training as required
Successfully complete virtual project-training to be held early August
Attendance at all trainings is mandatory Work in Greensboro and High Point, NC
