Description:

Position Title: Senior Electrical Engineer - PDC Projects

Location: Houston, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary:

Our Houston-based client is looking to bring on a Senior Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in specifying and designing Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems-especially for Power Distribution Center (PDC) building applications. The ideal candidate will be technically strong, self-motivated, and capable of working cross-functionally with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.

This role focuses on designing and specifying MV switchgear and VFDs, 480V MCCs, and related systems while supporting the integration of these systems into prefabricated PDC buildings, including performing HVAC and layout assessments.

Core Duties & Deliverables:

Develop complete electrical design packages including one-line diagrams, interconnect wiring, hazardous area classification plans, cable schedules, and construction-level drawings.

Specify and configure MV/LV gear such as switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, soft starters, UPS units, and power transformers tailored for motor control center and PDC applications.

Perform engineering calculations related to load, voltage drop, inrush current control (including synchronous motor starting), and HVAC sizing for enclosed electrical buildings.

Interpret and produce detailed documentation: load lists, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, schematics, and wiring diagrams for both MV and LV systems.

Perform protective device coordination, arc flash hazard analysis, and short circuit studies using software like ETAP or SKM-plus, present findings to clients as needed.

Collaborate with EPC partners, clients, and vendors to review and incorporate technical drawings and specifications into final project designs.

Ensure electrical design complies with industry standards and codes (e.g., NFPA 70/70E/497, AGA, API RP 500, NEC, IEC).

Participate in peer reviews and quality checks of electrical design deliverables prior to procurement.

Evaluate field systems and recommend improvements or retrofits to resolve deficiencies or enhance safety.

Coordinate with protective relay technologies (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin, Beckwith) and provide integration expertise when needed.

Maintain active PE licensure and uphold professional engineering standards in all work completed. Candidate Profile:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

Minimum 10 years of practical experience in MV/LV electrical distribution design within energy or industrial sectors.

Current Texas PE (Professional Engineer) license required.

Proficient in applying NEC and IEC standards in both greenfield and brownfield settings.

Experience delivering power and control system designs for process facilities, including oil & gas (especially midstream), chemical, or heavy industrial environments.

Exposure to PLC-based control system architecture is advantageous.

Strong communication abilities with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Proactive and accountable-capable of taking ownership of tasks and delivering quality results independently. Preferred Experience (Not Required):

Familiarity with SEL, Beckwith, or GE Multilin relays.

Prior work performing advanced power system modeling and site electrical audits.

Understanding of HVAC load impacts on enclosed electrical spaces (such as PDCs).

Compensation:

Highly competitive salary package with performance-based incentives, benefits, and career development opportunities.
